Breaking: Has ABC Canceled Pan Am?

Get More: News

Pan Am CancelledHas Pan Am been grounded for good? Depends who you ask.

ABC is denying widespread reports that it has axed the struggling freshman drama.

The buzz picked up steam Tuesday shortly after one of the show’s stars, Karine Vanasse (aka Frenchwoman Colette), tweeted that the cast and crew “received THE call [that] Pan Am is only coming back for one more episode after Christmas. But up to the end, we’ll give it our all.”

In a statement, an ABC rep tells TVLine that the show remains in contention for next fall. “Pan Am will wrap production on its first season in early January after completion of its 14th episode. A decision about about a second season will be made in May.”

Earlier this month, ABC announced that new comedy GCB would assume Pan Am‘s Sunday at 10 pm timeslot beginning in March.

  • Typical ABC keep the crap and axe the good stuff

  • Realistically, the show is dead. This stuff about making a decision in May is basically meaningless. Pan Am’s ratings are so low that it doesn’t even matter how other programs on the network perform compared to it. ABC won’t want to bring back such a ratings dog. There is maybe a 1% chance of this show returning next fall. If that.

  • NOOOOOO! It’s my favourite show. Definitely want a second season!

Initially I was not very interested in watching a 60s story but it is nothing like I expected. The airline setting, romance and drama in the plot, and characters like Colette and Dean are sooo engaging.

This show also reminds me of my annual airline trips as a child, and rekindles my fascination towards the lives of airlines crew. Really don’t want this show to end . . .

  • ABC needs to stop this, canceling shows without any cause. That they assume that no one, watches them. In reality they are punishing, the shows because of something. That’s probably not true, they have done this for years. And i know this, cause I have watched ABC, the longest all the years that I have watched TV. And they are doing the same exact, thing in daytime. They are punishing the soaps, for what they are doing to their, network. And they need to stop, before it goes to far. In the present. Then NO ONE will watch, the network overall.

  • I love Pan Am and I hate to see it go! The storylines are solid, the acting is good and the show itself gives us a glimpse into the past. ABC seems determined to only produce cheap reality TV garbage and talk shows which is why their programming and decisions get worse with every year. I wish they would look at overall numbers every 60 days…look at Nielson, Hulu, iTunes, DVR data, cable provider viewers and website downloads and see what shows are really being watched. For some of us who work alot or have families we might go a week or two without having time to catch up and then we’ll sit down and watch three eps of a show in a row. Being a fan shouldn’t only be counted if it’s on the networks timeframe.

  • It was just starting to really take off, if you’ll pardon the pun. The most recent episode was, in my opinion, the strongest of the season (the one with Harris Yulin having a heart attack and the emergency landing). Some shows take time to build a profile, and once they worked out some of the clunky writing and make the spy stuff a little more dazzling, it has potential to be a phenomenal show in its second season. My favorite aspect of the show is the photography and overall look. It’s stunning to watch.

    • I agree about the most recent episode being the strongest. I thought it found it’s footing. I’ll miss it.

  • This show deserves a chance. It’s entertainment, good clean fun, and the characters are likable. The ladies are not at all hard to look at. There’s a bit of history, a little bit of treachery, and some nostalgia for the era before America’s innocence was shattered by Viet Nam and at least 3 major political assassinations. People don’t have to be constantly killing each other or screwing in every episode for it to be good entertainment – in fact, I find it refreshing in that regard.

It seems like everything in the entertainment industry today has to be “dumbed down” and “whored out” to be considered fit for consumption. Quality entertainment has been replaced by auto-tuned no-talent “singers”, pseudo-porn, mind-numbing “star” competitions, and reality shows. Some times I think that advertisers only want to reach stupid people.

  • The fact of the matter is that Pan Am was inspired by and has been far outclassed by Mad Men . They made Pan Am hoping to get Mad Men ratings and that just isn’t happening, so now they need to figure out if the ratings are high enough to keep around, now that it missed its high set bar.

  • Both The Playboy Club & Pan Am got me very excited because I’m so interested in that time in our history. I admit, I was a bit surprised The Playboy Club got axed so quickly…although I could tell pretty quickly it wasn’t going to be another Mad Men. Pan Am was pretty good at first, but it’s gotten pretty BAD as it’s gone on. The whole “stewardess/espionage” angle is absolutely ridiculous. I wanted SO much to see both shows succeed. In the end, neither one has lived up to my hopes. Bring on the next season of Mad Men!!

  • I really don’t care about any of the other characters except Colette. She actually is believable and real and I care what happens to her. With all the other characters, save Kate, there is no romance – they find a guy, and then they drop them – does Laura like Ted? I don’t know because they only showed intimacy in 1 episode, and then she was with another guy. Maggie’s kinda cool since she flirts with the guys who are most convenient and can get her what she wants.

  • Wow – there are 4 new shows that I LOVE on TV. First – Revenge is Fantastic. 2nd Pan Am is delicious and I know soooooo many people that are into it. If ABC Cancels either one of these shows, something is really horrible. The next two shows that I love are Body of Evidence and Person of Interest. I have pretty much lost all interest in any versions of CSI. I do still like The Mentalist and just started watching Once Up On A Time. I think ABC is doing very well and then CBS, but NBC seems to be in big trouble. Those are the prime time shows I watch on over the air TV. As for Cable – Fox News and Fox Business seem to be in the lead and then The Food Channel and DIY. Occasionally, I will watch EWTN (I am a Catholic and do appreciate it).

Please keep all of the above shows going especially Revenge and Pan Am.

  • I have to say this was the only show I watched on ABC, I actually enjoyed the story lines that worked with historically prevelant real life things. It’s a shame if they do away with the show, it is well written and at times made me look more into the why of things, I thought I already knew about….Please do not cancel this program ABC!

  • My hubby, Mother, friends & coworkers LOVE Pan Am! I think it needs more time. It’s airing has been too spotty to get the following it deserves. 4 episodes then one then have to wait till January for another! I have never seen such panic over cancellation rumors about a show that’s aired only 5 times. It’s better than Revenge, Suburgatory, That Fairy Tale show & with Sheen gone it’s better than Two & a half men! If they cancel it maybe another network will pick it up! It’s a gem of a show that already has a large, loyal fan base!!

  • ABC please don’t let Pan Am go! It’s classy, historic and one of the only shows well worth our time. These are values this country has lost touch with. I am tired of the violent, dark shows that dominate. The writers and cast are phenomenal! Things were just starting to take off… So I ask you ABC do what other networks are not.. keep a show that leaves people feeling uplifted!

  • Why would you cancel a show like Pan Am. It is real, has so much potential and history and keep has been shows like Private Practice and Grey’s Anatomy? Those drama shows have run their course. Too many dysfunctional doctors and I won’t be watching them anymore. Please don’t take all of the drama shows away. There is room for both comedy’s and dramas.

  • Like ABC’s Revenge, Pan Am is a great new show and needs a little time to go from a sleeper to a major favorite. The word is out – great cast members and the look is wonderful. Come on ABC – think positive about PanAm. This is the era of the DVR, so the monitor reports are not very accurate anymore. Give Pan Am a 2nd season and it will succeed. Stop staring and stopping new shows. This is a great opportunity – just keep it going and keep writing good story lines for Revenge – my favorite new show.
