CSI Taps Elisabeth Shue to Replace Marg Helgenberger

Elisabeth Shue is CSI-bound.

The Oscar-nominated actress has been tapped to replace the CBS procedural’s longtime leading lady Marg Helgenberger, who is set to exit the series in January.

Shue joins the team as a fresh-out-of-anger-management CSI who may or may not have been fired by Ted Danson’s D.B. Russell back at their previous precinct in Seattle.

“The first time things didn’t go so well between the two of them,” executive producer Don McGill previews. “Maybe the second time’s the charm…or not.”

Helgenberger — and her beloved crime-solver Catherine Willows — meanwhile, may still pop up for the occasional guest spot.

Shue makes her CSI debut on Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 10/9c.

  1. Ed says:

Ahh she will always be Chris from Adventures in Babysitting to me. Though I don’t watch CSI, I am glad to see her back on the screens.

  2. Kyle says:

That’s actually a very good replacement. I didn’t think CBS could pull it off.

    • DL says:

Have to agree with you there. After the Larry Fishburne fiasco, seems they’re a lot more discerning with their replacements. I’m really enjoying Ted Danson, and Elisabeth Shue is great to step into Marg Helgenberger’s shoes. I still won’t be sold until they introduce the character details, though. I always felt Fishburne would have been somewhat better if the Ray Langston character wasn’t written so angsty and brought in at an entry level position.

  3. lala says:

    thanks for the news!!!
Looking forward to seeing her again. I will have a hard time getting Adventures in Babysitting out of my head :))

  4. Ashley says:

Am I the only one that was reminded about community when Abed (and Jeff) tells Britta that she “looks like Elisabeth Shue”

    • Miffy says:

Yes, you are, because nobody watches that bomb, Community

      • Chelsea says:

Community is not a bomb; it’s an under-appreciated comedy that a decent number of people enjoy watching. You could always try a productive comment–or if that is too difficult, you do have the option of not saying anything at all.

        • TiminPhx says:

Community is just another Snarkfest. If you had watched the “Daily Show” that night or are planning to watch Letterman later on, skipping Community will keep said Snark levels down to a still high, but managable level.

  5. april-ann says:

    Excellent choice!

  6. Miffy says:

Wow – that’s quite a coup. I’m surprised Elisabeth, now that she’s willing to do TV, wants to do a show that’s on its last legs.

    • DL says:

I’m sure the paycheck was right. That said, CBS isn’t a network about artistic integrity, it’s a network about numbers. So long as CSI continues to win in audience and demos in its timeslot, the show is here to stay.

    • Eurydice says:

Television has more and better roles for women than movies do, especially for women who are older.

  7. Wes says:

An excellent choice. Love Marg and will hate to see her leave but it is nice to see the producers sign such a high quality actress.

  8. Lu says:

Love the new addition to the cast, welcome Elisabeth Shue!

  9. lyle la fee says:

alway loved Marge sorry to see her leaving, but with the sorry line the producers are going right out of anger-management perfect choice in Elisabeth Shue

  10. Cassidy says:

I can’t say I’m very happy about this… This season has been really disappointing for me so far. The new girl Morgan annoys me to no end, the plotlines are starting to bore me (I feel like I’ve seen them all before…), and now Catherine, one of my favorite characters, is leaving. I love Elizabeth, but I think this is the straw that breaks the camel’s back. I seriously don’t think I’m going to be watching CSI for much longer.

  11. Sam says:

I actually might watch the show again. I used to watch it occasionally 7-8 years ago when I was a pre-teen but I’d like to say my taste has matured. I’m not a fan of procedurals but a Elisabeth Shue/Ted Danson combo appeals to me way more than Marg Helgenberger/William Petersen.

  12. nicole says:

i love marg please come back there is loads of fans out there who love u i do please come back csi wont be the same without u i love u go marg and cathrine i love u u will be missedxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  13. Elliott Bettman says:

I LUV Marg too but don’t blame her for not wanting to be Bruckheimer’s slave anymore. Poor Catherine she’s been thru sooo much and now will be going through even MORE

  14. steve says:

i love ted dansons potrayel of Db russell their was no need to bring shue in as a replacement for marg helgenburger i think that george eads nick as number 2 would have been far more interesting than trying to bring a carbon copy of catherine into the series because comparisons will be made and she wont come upto the comparison
