TVLine Items: Neil Patrick Harris Fills In on Live!, Anna Kournikova Leaves Loser and More!

Neil Patrick Harris is the second celeb set to fill in for Regis Philbin, who later this week makes a permanent exit from Live! with Regis and Kelly.

The How I Met Your Mother star has been named guest co-host of the daytime talkfest for the week of Nov. 28. As previously announced, Jerry Seinfeld will be the first to occupy Philbin’s vacant seat beginning Nov. 21.

Ready for more of today’s TV dish? Well…

• Anna Kournikova is leaving The Biggest Loser after just one season as a trainer, per The Hollywood Reporter. The tennis star joined the NBC weight loss series for its 12th cycle (which is currently airing on Tuesdays at 8/7c) as a replacement for Jillian Michaels.

• Megan Mullally has landed a guest spot on NBC’s Up All Night, E! Online reports. The ubiquitous funny lady will play a rival of Maya Rudolph’s Ava.

• Fresh off her stint on the short-lived Playboy Club, Laura Benanti will appear on NBC’s Law & Order: SVU as the estranged wife of the department’s new detective, Nick Amaro (Danny Pino), per TVGuide.com.

  • A replacement for Regis remains a mystery but may not be my “final answer”. Can Kelly Ripa’s soon to be NEW co-host use one of the lifelines like 50/50? And there’s good news of things to be seen even though Anna Kournikova isn’t coming back on the next cycle of BIGGEST LOSER if Jillian Michaels destined to come back.

    • Out of all that you just said, the only thing I can actually hope is true/understand is that Jillian will be brought back to Biggest Loser… there is a reason their ratings have dropped…

  • Megan Mullaly has popped up all over TV this season, why not give her her own show (albeit not a talk show)?

  • I guess I’m in the minority here but I can’t understand how Biggest Loser even made it past the first season.

    • I really only ever find it interesting at the end of the season, to see how the people look.

  • When I originally commented I clicked the “Notify me when new comments are added” checkbox and now each time a comment
is added I get four e-mails with the same comment.

Is there any way you can remove me from that service? Cheers!
