The TVLine-Up: TV Worth Watching Wednesday

On your TV this Wednesday: ABC’s a little bit country, while X Factor is (presumably) a little bit rock ‘n roll — plus an Up All Night getaway, romantic woes for my JJ Jareau, and more. All told, I’ve rounded up 12 programs to keep on your radar tonight.

8 pm The 45th Annual CMA Awards (ABC) | Hosted for a fourth time by Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood, this three-hour kudoscast is broadcast live from the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville.

8 pm Survivor: South Pacific (CBS) | A double eviction rocks the newly merged Te Tuna tribe!

8 pm The X Factor (Fox) | The Top 11 perform!

8 pm Up All Night (NBC) | Reagan and Chris labor to spend their first night away from Amy — at the Beverly Hilton, no less! — even if it means leaving their wee one in the care of Ava (who then winds up in the care a charming single dad played by Jason Lee).

TVLine’s ‘Cop Crushes’ Bracket Tournament Round 2 Ends With
Dexter vs. Criminal Minds, Cold Case vs. Third Watch

9 pm Criminal Minds (CBS) | As the BAU investigates some bodies that turn up in the wake of a series of tornadoes, professional pressures cause personal woes for JJ. Josh Stewart (Third Watch) returns as Ms. Jareau’s longtime beau, Detective William LaMontagne, Jr.

9 pm Vietnam In HD (History) | Part 2 of 3 covers the Tet Offensive, Hamburger Hill, and how the all-around turmoil of 1968 helped one Richard Nixon win the presidency.

9 pm Harry’s Law (NBC) | Harry’s vacation takes a detour when a small town impounds her Mercedes for violating their “Buy American” law. In challenging the charge, Harry and Oliver face off with the local mayor (played by Cheers alum George Wendt aka “Norrrrm!”).

First Look Video: What Does Harry’s Law Have on Tap for Cheers Vet George Wendt?

10 pm CSI (CBS) | At the scene of a car crash, the CSIs find three casualties… and a human brain that doesn’t belong to any of the victims; D.B. worries his son (Lie to Me‘s Brandon Jones) isn’t focused on college following his suspension from school. Victor Webster (Castle) also guest-stars.

10 pm American Horror Story (FX) | Come for the grim backstory on Tate’s reign of terror and the 411 on what that ultrasound revealed, but stay for the raw brains. (A lot of brains bouncing around in this time slot tonight, hmm.) Modern Family man Eric Stonestreet guest-stars as a patient of Ben’s who has some very pig issues, while Sarah Paulson (Studio 60) plays a medium who apparently didn’t get the memo that seances aren’t quite needed to talk to the dead here.

10 pm Law & Order: SVU (NBC) | Captain Cragen goes undercover as a lonely suitor to lure out the killer of a mail-order bride. Timothy Busfield (The West Wing) guest-stars as brains the deceased’s fiance.

10 pm Psych (USA Network) | Shawn and Gus go undercover as a coach and team mascot when a minor league baseball team’s hitting instructor is murdered. Guest stars include Danny Glover, Wade Boggs and Michael Trucco (Fairly Legal).

10 pm South Park (Comedy Central) | After watching History Channel special, the boys come to believe that aliens were involved in the first Thanksgiving dinner of brains.

  1. Templar says:

CMA All the way. I’ll catch up with Psych later.

  2. Jared says:

I’m so disappointed that ABC’s lineup is preempted for some hick trash show.

    • Snapy says:

Same. I’ll just be watching Survivor tonight and missing Modern Family and Revenge. :-(

      • WingsStef says:

Why isn’t it on the weekend? Don’t most award shows on Sunday’s? But then again that would still pre-emt some shows. And some country music fans probably watch football.

    • Nicole says:

Ditto. Why is this genre awards show pre-empting new network television during sweeps? It should have aired on cable – CMT needs a reason to exist besides Reba reruns.

  3. Alicia says:

Criminal Minds! Even though tonight’s case looks like a hot mess (I really can’t with these new writers) the JJ/Will drama is intriguing.
Also, the 150th ep better be EPIC.

  4. kevin says:

Nothing 4 me ’cause there’s a reason why this year I skip watching CSI, X Factor which I don’t really watch it and CRIMINAL MINDS in case of how this season is becoming its darkest year ever.

  5. aj says:

I like this season of Criminal Minds. It couldn’t just be all peachy after what happened last season.

    • @aj says:

I really like this season. It’s got its groove back after last season. On a sidenote: CBS is doing a takeover for them today on Twitter, etc. like with NCIS last night. I love this idea. It’s fun and you get cool extras like vids and stuff. They had one with Paget earlier. Love her. :)

  6. Molly says:

    Rude, much?

  7. Aysh says:

    Does this mean no Revenge?

  8. e says:

    Hahha psych, so awesome!

  9. Carrie says:

NOTHING you have up there but I WILL be watching Revenge!!! It is the best new show this fall season!

  10. Josh says:

Revenge isn’t airing a new episode this week. Guess I will just have to get some extra sleep instead.

  11. MRinLA says:

Really excited to see Stonestreet on AHS given how great he was on Nip/Tuck a few years ago. Also live seeing Paulson. AHS is getting so addictive.
TiVo will also be capturing Survivor, Up All Night, and South Park.

  12. Paul says:

Couldn’t agree more!! I was my Revenge!!

  13. Lisa says:

    CMA Awards
    Ghost Hunters
    American Horror Story

  14. Justin says:

Criminal Minds, Psych, and CSI are on my list tonight. Definitely loving Criminal Minds this season. The whole team is back and the cases are still are still as dark as ever. Perfect!

  15. laur says:

criminal minds.. shemar moore is hot

    • Alicia says:

You might be interested to know that he’s co-hosting “Entertainment Tonight” tonight then! From the previews it looks like they’re sharing some BTS footage (old and new stuff), so I’m gonna check it out. :)

  16. CJ says:

I’m a lot less likely to watch the Country awards show given that there are about 23 Country awards shows every year, not counting the general music awards shows which also reward Country musicians.

  17. mdaily says:

    Whitechapel, BBC America. Great stuff.

  18. ceebee says:

    Last Hour of X
American Horror Story (Best new show this year!!)

  19. Gerald says:

Suburgatory, Happy Endings, American Horror Story and South Park.
Too bad there’s no bad Revenge today, that show is so addictive…… but they’re still airing the other ABC shows right?

  20. Dahlia says:

Ugh, won’t be watching any of this except Up All Night. Forgot about the stupid CMAs, and all my other Wednesday night TV is on ABC. (OK, I still watch ANTM, but that doesn’t count, because it’s embarrassing.)

  21. fifiwereking says:

i just love will lamontagne – wish he could join criminal minds… at least i don’t have to worry about missing harry’s law – they changed it so much it’s unrecognizable, just another law show – too bad

  22. Fernando says:

Theres nothing worth watching, No Revenge so no TV for me.

  23. Alex says:

Ugh, why is are the CMA awards taking over ABC during sweeps?!

  24. WingsStef says:

Though, the CMAs didn’t know it was on tonight, but I might put it on just to see Lionel Richie.

  25. Plum says:

Jason Lee and Maya Rudolph were adorkable on Up All Night, I seriously hope he’ll be on the show for a while. Chain link mesh has never been more romantic.

I’m thoroughly enjoying Up All Night, it just keeps getting better. It’s one of the new “marrieds” shows I’ve really like in a good long while.
