Exclusive: Franklin & Bash Snags Sean Astin For Super-Powered Guest Stint

It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s onetime Goonie Sean Astin playing a poor man’s Superman on Franklin & Bash.

The Lord of the Rings vet has signed on to guest star in an episode of the TNT legal dramedy as a college security guard who dons a cape and tights by night to fight campus crime under the name Viper.

When he’s accused of killing a so-called culprit, he retains Franklin and Bash to defend him.

Astin will appear during the show’s upcoming second season. Other Season 2 guest stars include Jane Seymour and Peter Weller.

  • Isn’t this a total retreat of a Castle plot from last month?

  • Wow. I totally forgot about this show. I’m a fan of Breckin Meyer, but the other guy just seems to be a pale imitation of Gabriel Macht from Suits.

    • You have never heard of Mark Paul Gosselar? He has been in tons of stuff!! He is not a natural womanizer, so I think he plays his character a little too over the top in this show…he’s been around as long if not longer than Gabriel from Suits!!!

    • Franklin and Bash aired before Suits did, if anything, Gabriel Machts bland performance is a pale imitation of Mark Paul Gosselar’s performance.

      • I wasn’t comparing their performances, I was comparing the actors themselves. Kind of like Josh Lucas vs Matthew McConaughey.

    • Wasn’t he a regular on 24 for like a season or something?

      • For a handful of episodes, he was under-utilized on that show!!!

      • He was also a regular for the entire 2nd season of JEREMIAH on Showtime.

  • Jane Seymour and Peter Weller. Roger’s first Bond girl and Buckaroo Banzai/Robo-Cop ok but Astin so what?
Lord of the rings was a long time ago.

    • Sean Astin was big long before Lord of the Rings. First off, he was the star of Goonies, which is an absolute cult classic. Secondly, ever hear of a little movie called Rudy? If you went to public school between its release and now, you’ve seen it at least 3 times. Also, yes, Lord of the Rings was a while ago, but it was 1 of the top movie franchises of all time, so it is reasonable to assume its lead actors (especially those with who were already established) wouldn’t fall off the radar.
