Chuck Exclusive: Braveheart's Angus Macfadyen Cast as Show's Final Big Bad

Chuck Bartowski will cross swords with one final Big Bad before signing off this spring.

Braveheart actor Angus Macfadyen is joining NBC’s Chuck for a multi-episode arc as the show’s last major villain, sources confirm to TVLine exclusively.

Exclusive Chuck Video: Carmichael Industries’ First Crisis

Macfadyen — who co-starred as Mel Gibson’s noble compatriot in the Oscar-winning film — will play Nicholas Quinn, a former CIA agent who now runs a mercenary spy ring.

Like Chuck, he’s a spy for hire. Unlike Chuck, he only works for bad guys.

Macfadyen’s arc will span the last four episodes of Chuck‘s fifth and final season (premiering Friday).

The Scottish actor’s TV credits include Alias, Californication and the short-lived ABC drama Miracles.

  • “noble compatriot, Robert”????
    Good grief.
I don’t know where to start with that one, even if you discount actual historical fact!!

    • True enough. Robert Bruce was a butcher and thought of nothing but being king.

  • Until so many other NBC shows fail that they give Chuck another 9 episodes…

    • Bob Greenblatt isn’t a knee-jerk guy like Zucker was (see the patience with Prime Suspect and the fact that they aren’t rushing Fear Factor out of the gate in time for sweeps). Chuck is going to air a final 13 episodes, and, quite frankly, I’d rather the series goes out with creative momentum than air an intended finale than backpedal and air nine more tacked-on with a haphazard conclusion.

All I’ve wanted all these years with Chuck on the bubble is a planned ending, I’m getting it after 5 seasons, and I couldn’t be happier.

      • ICAM. Let the show work toward a finite finish line for once.

      • To be fair, his patience with Prime Suspect didn’t transfer over to Free Agents and The Playboy Club very well…

        • To be fair, those shows sucked far more in comparison, and ratings.

        • I agree with AJ. Prime Suspect is pretty darn good. Or rather, it’s a standard cop procedural and Maria Bello is super awesome, the supporting cast is entertaining, and the writing is solid, which elevates the show to “pretty darn good.”

  • It’s very sad that this will be Chucks last season.
Just like 2 1/2 men with Charlie, I really don’t think it’s going to be
the same without Chuck. That’s just so disappointing!

    • It’s the last season for Chuck the show, not just Chuck the character. This isn’t the same situation as 2 1/2 Men.

  • This is something that happens to so many good shows, the biggest problems i see is that the main audience viewing chuck are ones that also enjoy sci-fi, unfortunately the larger population doesn’t enjoy these sorts of shows, or, they enjoy them and also down load the shows, this doesn’t go towards ratings and as such, CEO or the like don’t know how much a show is enjoyed, i for one am very upset with the ending of chuck to come, and will be buying the full box set of the 5 seasons of chuck.

to the crew of chuck, i am sad to hear the end, and has been a very big huge pleasure watching this program.

P.S. all 5 seasons of chuck so better be on blu ray

  • I agree with John. Despite being sad, I’m happy with the final 13 episodes for CHUCK, so they can tie up all loose ends and give us a planned (hopefully also a HAPPY) ending.

  • I can’t believe this is the end. I just won’t believe it. A miracle will happen, I have faith, and Chuck will be renewed!!
