AMC Renews The Walking Dead For Season 3

AMC has renewed zombie phenom The Walking Dead for a third season.

An exact episode number is TBD, but we’re told the season will be at least 13 episodes long.

“Today we are pleased to announce that the ‘dead’ shall live as we proudly renew The Walking Dead for a third season,” said Charlie Collier, AMC’s President. “We are thankful for everyone’s contribution in front of and behind the camera as we continue to make The Walking Dead a unique television experience. And, we are so proud as it continues to set viewership records around the world.”

Despite behind-the-scenes tensions that culminated with the ouster of showrunner Frank Darabont, Dead kicked off its second season with monster ratings. The Oct. 16 opener drew 7.3 million total viewers — a 38 percent surge over the show’s Season 1 average. Even more impressive, nearly 5 million of those viewers fell into the coveted 18-49 crowd — a basic cable record.

    • josh says:

it doesnt literally mean season 2 will have 13 episodes in it this is including season 1 which had 6 episodes so in reality season 2 will have about 7 episodes

  3. Fran says:

  5. Realist says:

Fantastic news! I’d love to see them do at least 18 episodes, airing the first 9 in the fall and the other 9 in the spring.

    • Ssnetblaze says:

Airing them consecutively, like tv networks used to do, might be nice, instead of splitting the seasons. Ok, they can have the week of Christmas and New Year’s off.

  6. Scott says:

Glad to learn this. AMC got smart, picking it up. Must be due to eating all the brains! ;-)

  7. jen says:

so glad to hear that we are almost guaranteed to see the prison, Woodbury, Michonne, and of course THE GOVERNOR. now if only they’ll hurry up and introduce Tyrese I’d be happy

    • Sue says:

And his wierd daughter and her boyfriend. T-Bone just isn’t quite cutting it. He’s probably the one character I just go “meh – if he dies, he dies” to. The others – you either like, love or find then annoying or want to see them evolve to more like the comic.

  8. Pam says:

I was horrified to learn that walkers can climb trees!

  9. Olivia says:

Great news! Now its time for MTV to renew Death Valley, hehe :)

  10. Iain Geddes says:

Awesome news! I am so happy AMC went ahead with it, after the records they broke on the opening of season 2 it’s no wonder this has been confirmed so quick!
