Community Exclusive: Saturday Night Live Star Brings Christmas Cheer to Greendale

Community will be getting into the Christmas spirit with a little help from a Saturday Night Live star.

TVLine has learned exclusively that SNL standout Taran Killam — who recently wowed the crowd opposite Melissa McCarthy in that epic Hidden Valley Ranch sketch — will guest star on the NBC sitcom’s Yuletide installment as Greendale’s bound-to-be kooky choir director. His episode is slated to air in December.

Fun fact: Killam’s Community gig sets the stage for a reunion with executive producer Neil Goldman, who cast the actor some seven seasons ago on Nobody’s Watching, his WB pilot-turned-web sensation with Cougar Town boss Bill Lawrence. (Take a peek at the proof here.)

Killam’s other TV credits include Scrubs (where he also worked with Goldman), How I Met Your Mother, The Amanda Show and MADtv.

  • Wow! This is going to be brilliant; two of my favorite shows colliding. Taran is hilarious, he’ll fit in perfectly.

  • AWESOME!!!! Jimmy The Overly Touchy Orderly!!

Taran is amazing. My favorite snl cast member. And Nobody’s Watching was very good. it’s a shame WB turned it down.

  • SNL and standout don’t really seem like they go together. Is he really funny or just the only edible apple in the bunch?

    • He is in no way a stand out. SNL may be past it’s glory days, but there are a handful of current cast members who are heaps funnier than the seldom funny, Killam.

  • I wanted Victoria Jackson. Pierce, Chang and Dean Pelton are great, don’t get me wrong, but they’re amateurs compared to the insanity victoria could bring.

    • That’s not very nice. Just because her voice happens to have caused seizures and brain damage to a VERY small percentage of people doesn’t mean it’s her fault. How would you like it if people made fun of something you couldn’t control?

  • Do a search and replace. “Saturday Night Live Star” should be replaced with “Unknown Saturday Night Live castmember”.

  • I watched him on Nick Cannon’s Wild ‘N’ Out first (as well as the aforementioned shows) think he’s been an enjoyable SNL cast member. I’m excited he’ll be on my 2nd favorite tv comedy!

  • Taran Killam is an able comedian, and he does the “slightly unbalanced” thing really well. I think he’ll be great on Community!
