The TVLine-Up: TV Worth Watching This Friday

On TV this Friday: Nikita angers the wrong person, Danny Messer and Jamie Reagan get pretty new partners, and Sanctuary returns. The people have spoken and we’ve gone daily* with the TVLine-Up. Here are our picks for the day.

5 pm MLB National League Division Series (TBS) | In a two-pack of Game 5s, the D’Backs take on the Brewers, followed by St. Louis at Philly. The Yankees? Sore topic here.

8 pm Nikita (The CW) | When Nikita puts a big ol’ snag in Amanda’s latest plan, “The Inquisitor” fights back by taking “what Nikita loves most.” (Black leggings?)

8 pm A Gifted Man (CBS) | Rachelle Lefevre (Twilight) joins the freshman drama as Dr. Kate Sykora, a candidate to serve as the clinic’s new director. Also keep an eye out for Cara Buono aka the blonde beauty who lost Don Draper to the nanny.

8 pm Man Caves (DIY) | Season 8 premiere: Big-screen TV? Good. Bar? Good. Adding an in-home steakhouse? Good.

Casting News: The CW’s Nikita Adds a Series Regular

9 pm Fringe (Fox) | As the team looks into a series of bodies that decompose at an alarming speed, Walter’s hallucinations begin to take a severe toll on him. For more scoop, read TVLine’s recent pieces previewing Peter’s return and investigating Walternate’s conspicuously MIA status.

9 pm Supernatural (The CW) | Jewel Staite (Stargate: Atlantis) guest-stars as a demon who kills low-life thugs and takes their brains for, um, dinner. Suddenly I don’t feel so bad about the Angus Deluxe I indulged in the other night.

9 pm CSI: NY (CBS) | A body discovered in the trunk of a stolen vehicle puts the CSIs on the trail of some car thieves, the gorge Courtney Ford (Dexter) among ’em. Also: Jeananne Goossen makes her debut as Danny’s driver-slash-partner.

9 pm Say Yes to the Dress (TLC) | Season 7 kicks off with no less than Kelly Ripa helping a bride choose her gown. And believe me, Hayley Vaughn Cortlandt McIntyre Santos knows a thing or two about this.

CSI: NY Executive Producer Discusses Danny’s New Family and Partner

10 pm Sanctuary (Syfy) | The Season 4 premiere finds Magnus traveling to London circa 1898 to stop Adam from doing something that would have significant repercussions on the future. Taking a look at the new cycle’s bigger picture, Syfy says, “With the arrival of the Hollow Earth refugees, the balance between Abnormals and humans is severely upset. In order to keep the peace, Magnus and team must throw out the rulebook. But forging their own way means they’re not just dodging dangerous Abnormals anymore, now they’ve got world governments and new villains nipping at their heels.”

10 pm Blue Bloods (CBS) | Continuing CBS’ Friday theme of fresh hires, Lie to Me‘s Monica Raymund begins her run as Jamie’s plucky new partner.

What will you be watching live this Fringeday night? (Look at me being all subliminal.)

  1. Snapy says:

Supernatural for the win!! I’ll tape Fringe and watch it later.

    • geordiegirl1967 says:

Good call Snapy. I hope you have a Neilson box!

      • Mike says:

I’d disagree with the good call and would reverse it for the same ratings struggling reasons. But am more impressed by the possibility that someone out there still may be using a VCR to record television shows! :-)

        • Snapy says:

I have been loyal to Supernatural since Day 1. Fringe is a relatively new show, so I will *always* watch Supernatural live and tape Fringe for later.

And by “tape”, I’m referring to my DVR.

        • Avi says:

I still have a VCR that I use to record shows! It’s about 20 years old but it still works just fine. I just can’t toss it when it still works. Future hoarder right here.

          • tvlover44 says:

Ironically, my 20-year-old VCR that worked *perfectly* was broken a few years ago – by the Nielsen tech guys trying to install their measuring equipment into the machine (they do that, you know). as per the agreement, they had to replace the VCR – and that’s when i discovered that they really don’t make them like they used to. it’s very hard to find the reliable workhorses of the 80s and 90s, so i say just hold on to the one you have until it dies.

    • Guess says:

Until Peter comes back I’m stuck with Fringe!

    • Carrie says:

I love “Fringe”, but I always watch “Supernatural” live. I want them both to get another season, but it’s unfortunate that they’re competing against each other. Can’t watch both at the same time. If you don’t have one of the Nielsen boxes I guess it doesn’t really matter, anyway. (I still don’t understand the accuracy of that system.) It probably does count if you watch the show on their website, though. There are commercials and I’m sure they care if people are interested enough to watch online.

  2. Fernando says:

ABC should give reruns of Revenge and Charlies Angels on Fridays to help them out. Also if Charlies Angels get cancel which I hope not I think ABC should move Pan Am to Thursday at 8/7 and move Revenge on Sunday’s at 10/9 or 8/7

  3. Jamie says:

Really looking forward to CSI NY. :-)

  4. Cortexifan says:

  5. xav says:

Watching Fringe and Sanctuary tonight, obviously.

  6. Martina says:

    TONIGHT’S NIKITA!!!!!! So excited

  7. Templar says:

Only CSI NY for me. Dismal evening for the networks.

  8. Ann says:

Fringeday night! That says it all.

  9. King says:

CSI: NY! Plus Strike Back best action-filled show this season.

  10. Jess says:

My tv night consist of Nikita and CSI: NY!

  11. Kay says:

Walter! :( I really am on tenterhooks till Peter comes back in the flesh.

  12. Juliab. says:

  13. Ashley says:

I have to DVR “A Gifted Man” and “Supernatural”, but I’ll be getting my helping of “The Soup” (not listed here – sad!) live. Sorry about your Yankees, Matt – they put up a good fight but I gotta stand up and cheer for my Tigers.

  14. jayne says:

  15. Carmichael says:

Here’s hoping these changes brings Ashley back, stupidest move the show made.

  16. satirex says:

As much as I love the character of Danny on CSI:NY, I find it silly that he would get promoted to Sergeant–with all the mistakes he’s made, including having his badge stolen and used by a sociopath LESS THAN 2 YEARS GO, being fired would have been more believable. That said, I love the show (though I fear this is the last season. It feels like a victory lap, more than a serious attempt to build suspense. The ratings are still holding up fairly well, though.

  17. Patricia says:

I love Fridays my two favorite shows are on tonight I’ll be watching Nikita at 8 and Strike Back at 10. So happy Strike Back got picked up for a second season.

  18. Shaye says:

Nikita at 7 and Fringe at 8 and and out I go!!! Sick of those procedural clone shows on CBS dear god!!

  19. Jerri says:

    Sanctuary & Blue Bloods

  20. Gill says:

CSI NY all the way for me.

  21. tlbrownlie says:

Can’t decide what’s more exciting: the lions start or the Tigers chances. Great times for Detroit sports.

    • Angelique says:

That’s a tough one. The Lions are 4-0 just a few years after going 0-16 and the Tigers just eliminated the Yankees. I can’t decide. The Tigers are in the ALCS, the Lions are 4-0, and the Red Wings’ season starts tonight. You said it, it is a great time for Detroit sports. I’m just going to sit back and enjoy the ride.

  22. Scorpio says:

Oh yes yes yes Fringe and is Blue Bloods good?

    • jenn says:

Yes to both. Blue Bloods is super good!

    • @Scorpio says:

Yes, “Blue Bloods” is a very good show-solid stories and actors-surprisingly good for a Friday night show, actually. As for me “Blue Bloods” and “Nikita” are on my list tonight. Last week’s BB did not disappoint. One of the best episodes I’ve seen. I really think Danny and Jackie have a whole Benson and Stabler vibe going for them and I love it, since I can no longer get the real deal on SVU.

  23. Chloe says:

    Fringe all the way.

  24. Jennifer says:

Sanctuary for the night and can’t stand the CW.

  25. sadrocks says:

    Fringe and only Fringe!

  26. star says:

    Blue Bloods!

  27. Steph says:

    Gifted Man & Blue Bloods!!!!

  28. Sarah says:

Fringe and then Sanctuary! Fringe live at 8 nothing else compares. And while I’m glad Sanctuary is back but I still want news on a third season for Haven, Syfy!

  29. mims says:

So, okay–no eating OR drinking during Fringe! Thanks for the warning.

  30. Cheryl says:

I LOVED it when Fringe was on Thursday night *signs*..I hate staying in on Fridays ughh :(

  31. Becca says:

SANCTUARY IS BACK!!! So cannot wait!!! The only thing that will make me more anxious for Sanctuary than this premiere is when Nikola Tesla shows back up! I’m so happy he’s a vampire again!!! This show is seriously underrated just like Chuck, Fringe, and Community.

  32. shante says:

Can we get more Nikita fans? I love the show and I’m really disappointed that the network moved it from Thursday. Very unfair to the show. Now its talk of maybe cancelling. I hope not
