TVLine Items: HIMYM's Guest Star-Palooza, AMC Alum Joins Y&R, TVD's Original Mom and More!

How I Met Your Mother is plotting a returning guest star extravaganza this October — and we’re not just talking Ashley Williams’ Victoria.

In the Oct. 24 episode, Chris Elliott, Wayne Brady, Frances Conroy and Bill Fagerbakke will all reprise their respective roles on the CBS comedy, EW.com reports. Elliott will revisit the role of Lily’s estranged father, while Conroy and Brady are set to play Barney’s mother and brother once more. And, of course, Fagerbakke will (somehow) appear as Marshall’s late father.

Ready for more of today’s TV dish? Well…

• All My Children alumna Melissa Claire Egan will join CBS’ The Young and the Restless starting Nov. 11 as “a mysterious woman named Chelsea who is connected to Billy’s arrest in Myanmar,” EW.com reports. Egan played Annie Novak McDermott Lavery Chandler on the ABC soap for four years.

Meanwhile, TV Guide Magazine is reporting that Lauralee Bell (Cricket) is returning to Y&R in a series of flashbacks this November centered around the conflict she encountered with Eva Longoria’s wacky Isabella back in 2003.

• The Original mom is home! TVLine has confirmed that The CW’s Vampire Diaries has cast Alice Evans (Lost, Brothers & Sisters) as Klaus and Rebekah’s mother, Esther. She’ll appear in a flashback in Episode 8 of the third season. Fun fact: Evans is the real-life wife of Ringer star Ioan Gruffudd.

• Keith Carradine has landed a lead in TNT’s Western drama pilot Gateway, Deadline reports. The Dexter alum will play father figure to three brothers who return home to save their town after their own dad is murdered.

• USA Network has ordered a drama pilot from White Collar creator Jeff Eastin, which centers on various local and federal agents living together in one undercover house in California.

•  Star Wars vet Billy Dee Williams will play himself on an episode of ABC’s midseason comedy Man Up, per EW.com.

• Fox has renewed Gordon Ramsay’s MasterChef for a third season.

Wait so are you confirming that Victoria is returning in October? As Robin Scherbatsky would say, I’m LITERALLY parsing each word in your article Ms. Masters.

    • Lindsey says:

I wondered the same thing. It’s not really clear if it means the return we already saw or if she’s coming back.

  2. dee123 says:

Don’t overload on guest stars: That’s what ruined Will & Grace.

    • Lindsey says:

I’ve been saying this for years. I get why they had guest stars during the first couple seasons before the show took off, but it’s a successful show now. I think they are already going overboard, though I don’t mind these ones as much as some of the others they’ve had. At least these ones serve a purpose.

I’m ok with the guest stars they’ve listed b/c it has more to do with the plot than attracting viewers.

  3. kathy says:

The beginning of the article reads as if Victoria will be back. And having Barney’s mom and brother back again wouldn’t be that strange; they’ve been on more than once. Worry if Ms. Spears makes an appearance again. It’s one thing to do too much stunt casting and another if characters that actually make sense return.

  4. Elsa says:

They’re more like recurring characters thanatos guest stars imo..

  5. Elsa says:

Than not thanatos, my iPhone is going crazy with the auto-corrector, sorry

  6. ashley says:

HIMYM time jumps enough that the scenes with Marshall’s dad probably happens in a flash back or video rather than a post death ghost….. I hope

  7. Terry says:

Can’t wait to see the new western on TNT. Now if somebody would just realize what a great time it would be to launch a remake of Have Gun Will Travel The original plays great on Encore westerns and would make a terrific show. Who would you guys pick to play Paladin?

  8. Aprilcot26 says:

LOVE Wayne Brady on HIMYM. Can’t wait!
