CBS Moves Soft Gentleman, Returns Rules of Engagement to Thursdays

Get More: News, Scheduling News

CBS’ How to Be a Gentleman is on the move, relocating to Saturdays at 8/7c, beginning Oct. 15, the network announced late Friday.

Taking over the Thursdays-at-8:30 time slot is Rules of Engagement, which will premiere its new season there starting Oct. 20. (A repeat of The Big Bang Theory fills the vacancy next week.)

CBS’ 2 Broke Girls Cash In With Full-Season Order

Gentleman, starring David Hornsby and Kevin Dillon, launched to 9 million viewers — a number that was not too shabby, yet still down 30 percent from what $#*! My Dad Says did last season in the post-Big Bang slot. Gentleman then dipped to 7.8 million viewers in its second outing. UPDATE: Not long after the sitcom’s move was announced, production was shut down, EW.com reports.

Thus far, 2 Broke Girls is the only CBS newbie to get a full-season order. The Eye’s other freshman offerings are the dramas Unforgettable, Person of Interest and A Gifted Man.

  • Poor Rickety Cricket. Oh, well. He can spend more time with his new baby now.

    • Poor Cricket. No love for the new show. I’m shocked that they moved Rules back to Thursday. They move that show so much I can’t believe that it still has viewers.

      • Sweet. This is a much better fit and it’s been getting better. It’s had shocking treatment and Saturday was the worst idea!

  • Good. How To Be A Gentleman was terrible. I couldn’t make it past one episode. It’s like they plucked Barney from HIMYM and made him a terrible character. Just so bad.

  • if that’s true and it’s been reduced to 9 eps (essentially cancelled) won’t miss it. it’s not a good show. Rules of Engagement is so much better!

  • I knew gentleman would crash, that’s why we recorded Whitney and watched it at that time. But know we will watch Rules after Big Bang and watch Whitney on another night.

  • Your comment is irrelevant because you watch Whitney.

  • Good point on taste level of one who watches Whitney. Am I missing something? That show and it’s nonstop laugh track are unwatchable!

  • Well at least it is most likely that Hornsby will have more time to spend with his new baby boy, which is probably good so he can take over for Deschanel when she goes back to work in Jan. 2012.

  • And we will see where 2 Broke Girls and 2.5 man end because 2.5 man has dropped 40% in just 3 weeks.

  • Does CBS really think Rules will do any better?

  • Time to update. Word is out that it’s been cancelled.

  • It still astounds me, that Rules of Engagement is still even on the freaking air……I’ve tried to watch it several times….and I just can’t lose the feeling that it’s just a poor version of How I Met Your Mother, with SLIGHTLY different character traits for some.

  • i was looking forward to seeing rules of engagement on saturday, oct. 8 and thought, finally something funny and entertaining on saturday instead of tired old repeats, but cbs is jerking us around again!

  • I liked Gentlemen, but they needed a different lead for the show to work. He was not believable as a heterosexual at all. Also, why is Rules still on the air? It’s a bad, bad show.

  • i almost think they should go with 2 broke girls and put rules on mondays. Rules is a funny show but it didn’t do that well after big bang either.

  • Good news for Rules, though they’ve moved that show around so much it’s crazy. I didn’t like How to be a Gentleman much, but it only aired two episodes before getting moved/cancelled? That’s pretty quick. I didn’t like 2 Broke Girls either, and while it is probably a slightly more solid show, I assume the only reason it has the numbers it does is due to all its exposure alongside 2.5 Men.

  • As a huge fan of Sunny in Philly and Rickety Cricket I really wanted to love this show but it’s a horrible wreck. It was a decent concept but the execution of it was a mess filled with stereotypes that would’ve been barely funny in the 80′s to mid 90′s.
