The Price Is Right‘s 40th anniversary celebration is going to be — wait for it — legend — wait for it once again — ary, featuring a Celebrity Week, classic clips from the game show’s hallowed history, and its landmark 7500th episode.

“We are beyond thrilled to be entering our 40th season on air,” says executive producer Mike Richards. “We continue to evolve the show to build on [host] Drew Carey’s amazing strengths while maintaining our core, which is the energetic contestants winning incredible prizes.”

HIMYM: Neil Patrick Harris, Cobie Smulders Preview Barney and Robin’s New Love Square

Season 40 of the CBS daytime staple kicks off Monday, Sept. 19, with an updated, 360-degree set, and a look back at memorable moments — including the first time Plinko was played. That first week also features one of the biggest prize giveaways in the show’s history. (We can only hope it includes a jukebox, a can of Underwood Deviled Ham, and a Jet-Ski.)

The aforementioned 7500th episode airs Wednesday, Sept. 28. Celebrity Week will arrive on Jan. 2, 2012 and feature Neil Patrick Harris (whose How I Met Your Mother character famously long believed his father to be veteran TPIR host Bob Barker), Snoop Dogg and Jenny McCarthy. The stars will play alongside regular contestants, with proceeds benefiting charities.

Other special episodes on tap for the 40th season include salutes to teachers and nurses, a breast cancer awareness show, and TPIR‘s traditional Veterans Day show.

And now, a sneak peek at NPH’s visit:

  • I loved that episode of HIMYM and that was my first thought on seeing this. I don’t watch Price is Right since Bob Barker left (Drew Carrey is so monotone) but might have to make some effort now.

    • My favorite moment is when Barney shoves the guy out of the way after he wins the spin-off!

  • Can’t watch The Price is Right anymore. It’s been dumbed down with Drew and that over zealous announcer. It use to have a little class with Bob Barker but now it’s just tacky and annoying. Sorry, Drew. You just aren’t right for the job.

  • After 40 “priceless” years, I really don’t mind if THE PRICE IS RIGHT is suddenly going to get canceled because Drew Carey is totally wasted as host since he took over for Bob Barker and George Gray as an replacement for Rich Fields is totally overrated. The contestants are always a bunch of sore losers and the models can’t stop acting like professional cheerleaders but they always waving on camera, peeking at pricing games which I always hate and I’ve seen Rachel Reynolds as a Jessica Simpson look alike because of her hot body and a nice behind. Also, I wanted to see Manuela speak a whole lot of Spanish even though I consider her to be Miss Telenovela. Without a doubt, Drew Carey is a poor man’s Bob Barker and I think it’s time that The Price is Right will never be the same if Drew Carey quits and the show will definitely go down the toilet.

  • Drew, I think you are doing a great job. Keep it up.

  • Hope THE PRICE IS RIGHT gets “canceled” BIG TIME ’cause Drew Carey is a poor excuse of being a game show host instead of a comedian and the way he talks too much, daydreaming on the models and a nervous wreck and George Gray is a bad excuse for being Rich Fields’ replacement and the way for being a two-faced announcer. The contestants are always a bunch of “sore losers” and they continue to act like one of those awful people who can’t throw a temper tantrum or being sent to rehab like the Lindsay Lohans of all people. My message to Drew: better MAN UP, stop being a train wreck, be a better host and stop making all of your corny jokes or perhaps tell Dr. Phil.

  • PRICE IS RIGHT better be CANCELED or they riot.

  • We heard you Kevin. Once is enough. Drew is no Bob, but why would anyone want to watch someone who is TRYING to be someone else? You can’t recreate Bob Barker. Oh and those corny jokes Drew tells? Guess what, that’s the way Drew Carey has always been. Corny jokes are part of his trademark. And the women on the show have always been glorified cheerleaders … that’s the point of the “sexy assistant”. Maybe they wave so that pervs don’t spend the entire time staring at their behinds.. anyway, the show has changed, as it inevitably was going to. Give Drew a break and a chance to do his thing. He’s doing a good job of keeping the show going, considering he’s the host, not the producer. If there’s a problem with the quality of the show, talk to them. Not the guy with the microphone.

  • I think Drew is doing a great job! Bob eventually was going to retire and be replaced, and they are making the show more modern now. So cut Drew some slack! And BTW what happened to him? He has some kind of cast on his abdomen and his arm??

  • Drew is just great. I just had a idea for the show. With the P.G.A golfers soon to be in the 2012 season. The west coast swing would give a good time for a Pro golfer to come on the show to make the putt on the one putt or two game. Phil,Sergio,Bubby,Rory. etc. Love to be there to see it. Thanks

  • Drew Carey continues to waste more time on every show whether he’s a comedian or game show host and he sometimes talk too much and the contestants are a bunch of Charlie Sheen wannabes. As for the models, they need talent not just completely obsessed when they wave their hands on camera, acting like cheerleaders and not just standing there during pricing games.

  • I think Drew Carey’s hosting gig on The Price is Right has really hit a new low for him as does the contestants. I mean if the people come on down and going on stage to play a pricing game, Drew is not getting into the minds of the players if they haven’t seen or heard or doesn’t understand the rules of various games, the ratings would sink. The only reason for the contestants is that you have to go with your gut or instinct and if you try to look towards the audience for help, is always a sign of bad kharma and if a player pass the first showcase and bidding on the second showcase is somewhat of a sign of “bad kharma” especially if that person bids on the first showcase and the opponent bids on the second. But for the audience, they don’t know anything about it and they must learn the one rule on The Price is Right: don’t ever listen to them because it doesn’t matter if someone is with you or against you.

  • The Price is Right may get canceled VERY soon because Drew Carey continues to waste everybody’s time and he’s always talks too much and giving them headaches.

  • It’s been six years now since Drew Carey has hosted TPIR. Drew Carey still hasn’t shown any improvement in his hosting duties. The changes made to TPIR have most certainly dumbed it down. The male model is quite tacky! The show always had a simple format. Bob Barker gave that simple format an air of sophistication. Now the show is like some underground rave party combined with a circus. With my critiquing TPIR is throughly unwatchable now, as is most of what’s on TV nowadays. I’ll just enjoy the vintage episodes of TPIR on DVD and Youtube.
