Up All Night Casts Blythe Danner as Mom to Christina Applegate

Sorry, Peg Bundy — Christina Applegate has a new mom.

Blythe Danner has been cast in the potentially recurring role of first-time mom Reagan’s own mother on NBC’s Up All Night, our sister site Deadline reports.

Fall TV: Catch Up on All the News, Previews and Hot Videos

The freshman comedy series, which stars Applegate and Will Arnett as new parents, debuted Wednesday night to good numbers. It moves to its regular time slot of Wednesdays at 8/7c starting next week.

Danner — real-life mom to Gwyneth Paltrow — won an Emmy for her work on Showtime’s Huff and was one of Peter Facinelli’s original lesbian mommies on the cabler’s Nurse Jackie. She also had a recurring role on NBC’s Will & Grace.

  • She is so good. I knew when I saw her on Huff she’d win for that. I wasn’t crazy about UAN’s pilot though.

  • I think Christina Applegate and Gwyneth Paltrow are friends, so maybe that influenced this piece of casting! I remember Gwyneth answering a call from “Tini” during an interview that aired on E! several years ago. They made the bomb, “View From the Top” together in 2001. (It wasn’t released until two years later.)

  • I adore Blythe! Her “oh no, my weed!” line in Paul still has me in stitches.
