Community's John Goodman Has Dean Pelton's 'Privates In a Vice'! Will Jeff Defend His Foe?

You’ve no doubt read here about the showdown looming in Season 3 of NBC’s Community, between Dean Pelton (played by Jim Rash) and Vice Dean Laybourne, the imperious head of Greendale’s apparently renowned air conditioning repair school. But perhaps no one sums up the gents’ adversarial dynamic better than incoming guest star John Goodman himself.

“He’s got [the dean’s] privates in a vice,” Goodman shared during a Wednesday conference call. “Dean Pelton was feeling his oats, and now he’s having his oats fed to him.”

If Laybourne — whom Goodman touts as “an unseen, unknown force” — starts bearing down too hard on Pelton, might the chrome-domed, freshly goateed dean find himself backed up by the unluckiest of allies, in Jeff Winger?

“That’s a good question, because Jeff is always pretty wigged out by Dean Pelton,” Joel McHale told us. “In every scene, if you watch, the Dean finds a way to touch Jeff…. But my guess is that at some point he will be forced to help the dean.”

“I haven’t seen that yet in the scripts,” McHale points out, “because all of the stuff John has been doing thus far is setting up the Darth Vader-like empire that is the air conditioning repair school. My guess is it’s going to get really hairy in a couple episodes.”

The light at the end of the tunnel for Dean Pelton: Goodman says that at this point he is locked in for only six episodes of the NBC comedy — “unless they can get rid of me more cheaply!”

Community goes back to school Thursday, Sept. 22, at 8/7c.

Holy crap! If they ever need to make a live-action Venture Bros. movie…get Jim Rash ASAP!! Guy’s a spitting image for Dr. Venture.

    • Raskha says:

      Ha!!!!!! True!

    • Clay Phillips says:

Hhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa……Funny thing is,Brian,Jim actually does a pretty passable Rusty Venture sound-alike too!Watch the past couple of seasons of Community, and check out the scenes where either:1)He’s trying to sound tough/menacing/over the edge, ir 2)He’s feeling a bit loopy.

I’m telling you,I am digging this thought more by the minute,I’ve been a HUGE Venture Bros. fan since the very first episode, and this casting just seems perfect….Of course,I will add that if Rash had a slightly longer nose,he’d also make a perfect Monarch, and to that I only have one thing to say…
      “MINNNNNNNNNNNIONS!!!Prepare my Death’s Head Panoply!!!”

  2. LC says:

This should be great to watch. I LOVE Community and John Goodman is a great comedic actor.

  3. noo says:

dean pelton’s picture looks like he’s challenging his alter ego (walt from breaking bad) :D

  4. clg says:

They should have the new character try to recruit Troy given his mad plumbing skills. I’m not sure I favor the Goodman add (I’d rather cut Chang and add more Abed…maybe one-off guests, no new regulars)…but I think that line has potential for a great ep

  5. David says:

Privates in a VISE, not “vice.”
