The TVLine-Up: TV Worth Watching This Week

As we clear the table for Fall TV, no less than 13 season-enders are on tap this week (Torchwood and True Blood included), plus series finales for Rescue Me and Entourage. You’ve also got the Sons of Anarchy premiere to look forward to. As a supplement to the fresh features and reporting TVLine has coming your way, here are 31 programs to keep on your radar. (Our round-up of 9/11 commemorative programming is posted separately here.)

8/7c The Secret Life of the American Teenager (ABC Family) |
The summer finale features graduation, Ricky’s valedictorian speech, a possible proposal, and two unannounced guests at the seniors’ after-party.
9 pm The Closer (TNT) | Capping a marathon of this season’s first eight episodes, this new hour finds Brenda receiving — surprise! — what may be some good news about the lawsuit.
9 pm The Lying Game (ABC Family) | After discovering that she and Sutton have been having the same terrifying dream for years, Emma realizes she has conspicuously few childhood memories of her birth mother.
9 pm The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills (Bravo) | I’m usually loath to give the Real Housewives any play here, but I’m curious to see the “prologue” they taped to address the suicide of Taylor Armstrong’s husband.
10 pm Rizzoli & Isles (TNT) | Whoa, is Maura dating Jane’s brother (guest star Colin Egglesfield)?!

Sons of Anarchy: Watch the First Four Minutes of Season 4

9 pm Raising Hope (Fox) |
This memorable repeat finds everyone getting their flirt on.
9 pm Flipping Out (Bravo) | Season finale: Jeff juggles his want to start flipping again with his desire to find a new home for him and Gage.
10 pm Sons of Anarchy (FX) | Season 4 is finally here, and it is a doozy, as Jax and Clay emerge from the clink with clashing plans for the future, a new sheriff swiftly lays down the law, and Tara keeps hold of the explosive letters.
10 pm The Rachel Zoe Project (Bravo) | Season premiere: Rodger worries that his expectant wife is taking on too much work.

9 pm Criminal Minds (CBS) |
I’ve got conflicting intel: This is either the one with Morgan’s aunt, or a repeat of the season finale featuring the luminous A.J. Cook.
9:30 pm Modern Family (ABC) | Phil and Claire learn the grass isn’t always greener, when they swap roles.
10 pm Rescue Me (FX) | The sure-to-be-emotional series finale features the tragic fallout of last week’s ruthless fire, as well as the arrival of new probies — but who will still be around to mentor them?
10 pm Necessary Roughness (USA Network) | The freshman series’ penultimate episode has Dani facing her first wedding anniversary since the divorce, and kicks off an arc revealing some of Nico’s secrets.

The women’s final!
9 pm Jabberwock (Syfy) | This TV-movie is about a sword-wielding hero who must clip a dragon-like creature’s wings to save a village — and a damsel in distress. [Crickets] OK, what if I told you it starred Battlestar‘s Tahmoh Penikett? There we go….

  1. Evie says:

this is about True Blood: can not WAIT for this season finale..i have been thinking of this theory since last nite’s thinking the familiar face is going to be the fae..Maurella was definetly fae and im wondering if she found Andy and she is starting a new race…hmm..i think im looking WAY too much into this!! lol

    • Kathryn says:

You’re not the only one! Last night’s episode was sooooo amazing. I paused and rewond SO many scenes LOL It was funny, exciting, shocking I can’t believe this season is almost over

    • Jason says:

I am thinking it will be Russel Edgington.

    • Queen B says:

Dennis O’hare has confirmed he will not be coming back until next season so I think the familiar face is as simple as Marnie possessing Lala. I would love to see a hand breaking through the cement as the final shot though!

    • GK says:

Last episode was the best episode of this season!
Best scene – all of them cursing Sookie! Laughed so hard at that!

  2. Kelly says:

Wait… we’re supposed to believe that over a year has passed on Necessary Roughness? That’s a serious failure to convey over the series.

    • Matt Webb Mitovich says:

My bad! I misread the notes — Dani faces her first wedding anniversary since the divorce. This has been fixed ;)

    • Jules says:

I have to agree with you. While I wasn’t thinking it was days…I didn’t realize it was a year either. Of course…still love the show and love how they’re exploring Nico a bit. :)

  3. Stormy says:

I’m just hoping that now Adrien Grenier will get back into movies.

    • Deg says:

Back into movies???? I remember him as a small player in The Devil Wears Prada… but what movie career are you talking about? You will see him in the Entourage movie… but man has this season been bad. Really really really… really bad.

  4. Sourabh says:

Amy needs to stop being held in alien hospitals.

  5. Sparky says:

Its all about Suits, Rookie Blue and did I mention Suits…. Going to miss my weekly fix of Harvey every Thursday – the show just kept getting better and better. Roll on Season 2

  6. Mikaylah says:

Season finale of The Glades tonight on A&E!

  7. Selbs says:

True Blood – WOW! WOW! WOW! How can Alan possibly improve on last night’s insanity? Poor Lafayette, he’s had such a difficult year. So glad Alan decided not to off the character in the first season. It would have been tragic. Maybe Russell Eddington. What a hoot that would be. The thing with Andy is quite an interesting tid-bit. Lord only knows if it means anything or just a momentary flight into fantasy. I have decided not to try imagining what the finale will hold. Let’s just sit back and be prepared to be shocked and entertained, as only Alan Ball can do. This has been a great year, no matter how many plot lines were thrown our way. In the end they all worked. Please, Alan, no more were cats. Only negative bomb this season.

  8. shaun says:

How can Entourage finish so quickly?Feels like nothing is set up to end.Heck,we just got Sloane back!!

  9. V says:

Sons of Anarchy is back!!!!!!! :D
    Rescue Me finale :'(
Rookie Blue! They better not split up McSwarek! They just got together!

  10. TucsonGal says:

“The Glades” season finale is TONIGHT! It is very upsetting how little this website covers “The Glades.” It is a great show and sorely over-looked by all the writers here. I can’t believe how much coverage is devoted to reality-show trash and yet a well-written procedural/drama with superb actors goes completely unmentioned. Unfathomable.

  11. Trent says:

What no Glades!!! Glades is one of my favorite shows on tv and no mention here at all! Disappointing.

  12. Justin says:

Why no love for the Real Housewives franchise? It’s better programming than about half of this list of nonsensical scripted shows.

  13. kevin says:

SAINTS vs. PACKERS! Let the Football season begins and I can’t wait for NBC telecast of Super Bowl XLVI and the post Super Bowl episode of THE VOICE.

    • Deg says:

Kevin, I agree on the football… But the fact that you’re basically counting the days till a singing contest in February (6 months from now) makes me sad for you.

  14. Tom says:

Can’t wait for sons! Burn notice and suits were amazing this season too. Gotta love good t.v.

  15. Sav says:

Dude you missed The Glades again!

  16. Bob says:

There won’t be an Entourage movie. It’ll get hyped for a little while, then die on the vine like all the other “let’s keep the series going/proper conclusion” movie (TV or theatrical).

  17. On the Lying Game – Did anyone else buy the Twin intuition thing…

  18. Michael says:

The reviews of this weeks Doctor Who have been stellar! Can’t wait!

  19. JAO says:

Thoroughly loved Torchwood and Dr. Who. Anyone know if Torchwood is renewed?
