Fall TV Preview

Parenthood Plots Love Triangle With Buffy Vet, Plus a Baby-Bumpin' Season 3 Promo

But what about Crosby?!

D.B. Woodside — who is arguably best known as Sunnydale High’s badass principal on Buffy the Vampire Slayer — has booked a five-episode arc on NBC’s Parenthood this fall as a love interest for Jasmine.

TVLine has confirmed that the actor — most recently seen on The CW’s Hellcats and also familiar from a 24 presidential run– will play Joseph Prestidge, an Ivy League-educated doctor who takes a vested interest in Joy Bryant’s dancing beauty.

This casting news — first reported by The Hollywood Reporter — of course hints that Jasmine and Crosby’s happyish ending in the Season 2 finale didn’t necessarily lead to a rock-solid reunion. But given the limited scope of Woodside’s guest arc — which begins with this cycle’s third episode — we’re guessing it’s nothing more than a fling.

NBC has also released the first promo for Parenthood Season 3, and Kristina, thanks to a time jump, is looking very preggo. Take a peek below, and don’t miss the premiere Tuesday, Sept. 13 at 10/9c.

  1. Hen says:

Isn’t this the guy who played Melvin in The Temptations biopic? I’ve seen him in other stuff as well, good actor. Could be intetesting.

  2. ScrubsGuy says:

Let’s not forget he was also President Wayne Palmer on 24!

  3. sandee says:

It’s nice to see Buffy alums working. Marc Blucas on Neccessary Roughness. Alyson Hannigan on HIMYM. Charmisma Carpenter on Burn Notice.

  4. DL says:

So excited! Parenthood is easily my favorite show on NBC. Of course there needs to be drama and complications, so I’m not surprised Jasmine and Crosby won’t be happily-ever-after this season.

  5. Carrie says:

I adore PARENTHOOD. Cannot wait for season 3.

  6. kevin says:

Can’t wait to own Season 2 on DVD two weeks before the new season begins. The Crosby-Jasmine stoyline still bothers me and Jason Katims and his writing staff maybe thinking Plan B for Crosby since last season’s shocking affair with Gaby aka Minka Kelly.

  7. Jason says:

    David B. Aka Angel

  8. mona says:

Look on Adam’s face is priceless.

  9. Leah says:

Great choice for Jasmine, let the fireworks begin! Season 3 get here already!!

  10. Ali says:

I discovered Parenthood this summer and fell hard for the show. Can’t wait for the new season.

  11. Meg says:

I know that the show isn’t that good, but D.B. Woodside was most recently seen on Single Ladies on VH1.

Excited to see him on there, though. :) Should be interesting.

  12. Lena120 says:

D.B. Woodside gets work! He needs to give his agent a raise or something because he’s been going hard for over a decade. It’s good to talented actors consistently get good work.

  13. J.Norman says:

This is great if for no other reason than breaking up the Crosby – Jasmine relationship.
Crosby is in love with being a father, but he and Jasmine are a poor match personality and ambition wise. Not every couple are good matches.
Crosby is blinded by his love for Jabbar and his fear of losing him if he is not with Jasmine.
Jasmine will grow tired of Crosby’s type B personality eventually.

    • Leah says:

@ T.Norman, Nothing you have said can be substantiated by what has played out between Crosby and Jasmine, this is just your imagination and personal wishlist. Both Crosby and Jasmine have character flaws that they need to work on; not ignore and move on to the next relationship. Crosby is emotionally immature, any serious mature woman would have a problem with him. Jasmine is too independent and stubborm.
Crosby NEVER second guessed his feelings for Jasmine, and never confused them with his feelings for Jabbar. In season 1 Jasmine gave Crosby the option to leave, aand he told her emphatically that he wanted to be with her, it was never implied that he said this because of Jabbar. I will concede though Crosby wanted to get married because he thought it was the best thing for Jabbar, this is a separate issue from his love for Jasmine. In the last epi Crosby told Jasmine ‘ I love you (he was not drunk) and i would always be there for Jabbar’, no confusion there.
Crosby blinded by his love for Jabbar? When did this story arc begin and how did it end? I’ll answer, it was never a s/l. It is figment of some fans imagination who just can’t accept that Crosby fell in love with Jasmine and wanted to spend the rest of his life with her.
I welcome this s/l with a new love interest for Jasmine, i am looking foward to a jealous Crosby, but moreso i am excited about seeing Jasmine heal and forgive Crosby…and seeing these two work out their issues and put their family back together.

      • J. Norman says:

        When you say
“I will concede though Crosby wanted to get married because he thought it was the best thing for Jabbar, this is a separate issue from his love for Jasmine. In the last epi Crosby told Jasmine ‘ I love you (he was not drunk) and i would always be there for Jabbar’, no confusion there.

No confusion? Your own examples involve Crosby doing things with an eye on Jabbar.
Crosby desperately wants to prove to the world (and himself) that he is something more than a carefree, but occasional screw up.

We’ll just have to agree to disagree on Crosby (and the writers) motivations to push this relationship.

  14. Summer says:

He also currently stars as a series regular on VH1’s Single Ladies.

  15. Sina says:

He is so good on Single Ladies.

  16. catbean says:

No that’s President DAVID Palmer. This guy played his brother and was President after David was killed.

  17. squandette says:

Many people felt Jasmine was too controlling. I have a feeling that dude is going to call her on that and she will explore her own behavior.

Also, the writers have also talked about wanting to explore the issue of coparenting with them. What is it like to date and yet try to maintain a good relationship with your child’s other parent? That should be interesting.

And catbean, you are right. David was the allstate guy, Wayne was his brother and got to be prez later and was a victim of a bomb. I didn’t know he was on Buffy.
