The TVLine-Up: TV Worth Watching This Week

Coming to your TV screen this week: TV’s Terminator targets Alphas, a “lost” episode of Happy Endings, and twisty/twisted episodes of Torchwood and Doctor Who. As but a supplement to the fresh features and original reporting TVLine has coming your way, here are 33 programs to keep on your radar.

8/7c Eureka
(Syfy) | The Department of Defense sends a “relationship auditor” to see what’s what with Carter and Allison.
9 pm American Ninja Warrior (NBC) | Broadcast premiere: Apparently it’s like Wipeout, but G4-ier…?
9 pm The Closer (TNT) | All eyes are on Sanchez as Raydor ramps up her audit of Brenda’s department.
9 pm The Lying Game (ABC Family) | Still posing as Sutton, parts of Emma’s personality begin to slip out – and Sutton’s friends LIKE it!
9 pm Top Gear (BBC America) | The season opener includes a look at a South African alternative to the Hummer.
10 pm Alphas (Syfy) | She be back! Onetime Terminator Summer Glau guest stars as a super-crafty alpha who makes MacGyver look like a lightweight.
10 pm Rizzoli & Isles (TNT) | What brings the gals to Salem? A witch hunt, of course.

8 pm Pretty Little Liars
(ABC Family) | (Finally?) at their wits’ ends, the girls confide in Dr. Sullivan (Annabeth Gish) about “A”; Betty Buckley (Eight Is Enough) guests as Hannah’s grandma.
9 pm America’s Got Talent (NBC) | It’s semifinals time! Come Wednesday, four out of tonight’s 12 acts will be announced as moving ahead.
10 pm Combat Hospital (ABC) | ABC summer-TV worlds collide! Rookie Blue‘s Camille Sullivan (aka “Jo”) guest-stars as an army chaplain.

8 pm Buried Treasure (Fox) |
In this new series, Antiques Roadshow alumni Leigh and Leslie Keno value knickknacks in people’s homes, then help them sell ’em. (I know, Fox’s summer lineup this year was a bit… wonky.)
9 pm Ghost Hunters (Syfy) | The first in a new slew of episodes features a Rhode Island home spooked by a stray black cat. The horror.
9 pm Royal Pains (USA Network) | Hank treats an ill nanny (Californication‘s Madeline Zima), Divya has her date with Dr. Van Dyke (My Boys‘ Kyle Howard), and Paige’s secret is at risk of being exposed.
9:30 pm Happy Endings (ABC) | In this “lost,” never-seen episode, Jane and Alex’s sibling rivalry is renewed, while Dave dates a lacrosse coach with an unusual quirk.
10 pm Damages (DirecTV) | Patty makes a surprising move in her case against the French pharmaceutical company; Erickson visits Afghanistan to confront Sanchez.
10 pm Top Chef: Just Desserts (Bravo) | Season 2 premiere: I keep thinking about the “light bulb” moment when they cooked up this spin-off: “It’s like Top Chef, but — stick with me now – it’s just desserts!” And just like that, Vinny from development gets a 5% salary bump.

8 pm The Big Bang Theory
(CBS) | The girls take Sheldon dancing.
8 pm Community (NBC) | Faux clip show! The gang reflects on the St. Patrick’s Day parade, that time in the Old West town, and other great memories. Fun fact: The cast shot all the flashback vignettes in one long day, making a bazillion costume changes.
8 pm Rising: Rebuilding Ground Zero (Discovery) | One of the first of many pieces of programming to mark the 10-year anniversary of 9/11, this docu chronicles the construction of One World Trade at the site of the New York City terror attacks.
9 pm Burn Notice (USA Network) | When Michael’s plan to infiltrate a group of hijackers backfires, will Mom have to save the day?
10 pm Rookie Blue (ABC) | Chris and Dov exchange words about Gail.
10:30 pm Louie (FX) | Not to be outdone by Damages‘ John Goodman, Louie has his own adventure in Afghanistan.

9 pm Supernatural
(The CW) | When Castiel tells the boys about the war in Heaven, Bobby suspects he’s holding something back.
10 pm Haven (Syfy) | A drowning exposes a strange compound on the outskirts of Haven, from which kids have mysteriously gone missing.
10 pm Torchwood: Miracle Day (Starz) | Jack must face off against a man he long has thought was dead. No, Abe Vigoda does not guest-star.

7 pm NFL Preseason Football (NBC) |
It’s my Jets against that other team that’s from Jersey but acts like they’re based out of New York.
9 pm Doctor Who (BBC America) | This episode – during which someone accidentally saves Adolph Hitler’s life – has caused a bit of a fuhrer.
9 pm William & Catherine: A Royal Romance (Hallmark) | This TV-movie reminds us that before we were graced by Kim Kardashian and Kris whatshisname, there was this fairy-tale wedding.

9 pm MTV Video Music Awards |
Katy Perry enters the ceremony with the most nods, while the big question is how Gaga might one-up last year’s meat dress.
9 pm True Blood (HBO) | Sookie musters all her powers (and then some) to save a loved one; Alcide faces a moral dilemma; a band of vampires seek to cause massive havoc.
9 pm Leverage (TNT) | Sterling — yes, Sterling! — hires Nate’s team for a gig. I smell a rat….
10 pm Breaking Bad (AMC) | Walt takes a big gamble, while Hank enlists Walter Jr. in his investigation.
10:30 pm Entourage (HBO) | Eric is wowed by both Nikita‘s Melinda Clarke and Big Banger Johnny Galecki — but in very different ways.

  1. sara says:

Last week’s Torchwood was great (or at least better than the rest of the season by leaps and bounds) so I’m actually looking forward to this week instead of just looking forward to the end of the season.
Can’t wait for new Who episodes!!!!!! Moffat, you’re killing me! Where’s my Sherlock!
    New Happy Ending Episodes?! :DDDDD

  2. Meg says:

YAY! New Happy Endings. *Happy [Endings] Dance*

    • NickC says:

I second that Meg….i wonder where this episode fit into the season?

      • abc123 says:

It was the 6th episode made out of 13.

      • Carmen says:

Why wasn’t it shown earlier? Did they just run out of time since HE started late in the season? or what?

        • Jake says:

          I’ll check this out.

        • abc123 says:

I’m not sure. The writers sort of half-joked that the episode didn’t air during the regular season because it didn’t test well, but that’s still no reason not to air it. After all, they did pay for it to get made, so why not let the viewers decide?

        • bamalam says:

I think it might have been ABC’s fault. You know how the whole season it was back to back new episodes? Well one random middle week I remember it being a repeat episode and then a new episode and ABC was advertising back to back new episodes all that night in their commercials.

  3. Templar says:

I only watch three of these shows and two of them are opposite each other [R&I/Alphas]. I can’t say much for the late summer programing. Now that White Collar is on hiatus there is only Suits left, and it’s a rerun this week. Sigh.

  4. Lisa says:

    The Jets are going down.

  5. Brian says:

Isn’t “Buried Treasure” just another remake of “Cash in the Attic” which started in the UK in 2002 and was spun off onto HGTV in 2006??

  6. NickC says:

yo Matt…Wipeout is a Ninja Warrior rippoff..It has been around for yeas and it is a lot of fun.Plus you have a real chance to finish the course.(unlike Wipe) straight out of Japan. You should check it out…thanks for the info on Happy Endings….very cool.

  7. Ruby says:

I wish more people were watching Haven. It’s SO good.

  8. Krystal says:

fyi. the twins on The Lying Game are Sutton and Emmma, not Amanda. :)

  9. hilla says:

Oh hell ya! Sterling is back ! Leverage is simply rocking this season !!!

  10. Katy says:

Can’t wait for The Hour on BBCAmerica. One episode in and I am already hooked.

  11. Lisa says:

YEAH for Eureka! Best show! Wish they hadn’t cancelled it!

  12. TinCan says:

The Jets must be local for you, Matt. I think the rest of us get Pats vs. Lions on CBS. At least that’s what and my local listing says — just saying…

  13. Doris says:

I also like The Glades and Drop Dead Diva on Sunday nights. I enjoy Say Yes to the Dress and Four Weddings on Friday Nights, too.

  14. Richard says:

Others on my list this week:

Design Star – A multi-room makeover. John Gidding is the guest judge.
HGTV’d – David Bromstad makes over a home for a returning soldier with help from “The Ellen DeGeneres Show”.
RuPaul’s Drag U- Out of work women get a makeover.
The Big C – Rebecca deals with her miscarriage.

Flipping Out – Jeff hires one of his contactors.

The Challenge: Rivals – The season finale.
Hot in Cleveland – Elka prepares for her wedding.

Project Runway – A team challenge, with team captains determined by a foot race.
Expedition Impossible – The season finale.
Suits – Mike questions the dismissal of an executive.

Color Splash – David makes over a bedroom in a Manhattan loft.

Drop Dead Diva – Jane suffers the consequences of standing by her client.
The Venture Brothers – A “documentary” of the rise and fall of Shallow Gravy.

  15. V says:

    Rookie Blue!!!!

  16. godawy says:

“Rookie Blue” is quite GOD AWFUL.

  17. Alex says:

    A new epis

  18. Laysa says:

  19. Michael says:

    Doctor Who! That’s it. Goodbye.

  20. JC says:

Point of clarification: not all the flashback scenes for the Community episode were shot in one day. The scenes from the ghost town, habitat for humanity, raft race, etc., were all shot in one day on the Universal lot. But the flashback scenes that take place on the Greendale campus were shot on other days.

  21. Emma says:

Yay! New Doctor Who! It has been too long.

  22. tahina says:

The Closer and Rizzoli and Isles. Not much for me until fall.

Who are the girls on the pictures and what show? Thanks. :)

  23. Danielle H. says:

AWwww Matt you’re a Jets fan? It’s ok, I still like ya ;)

  24. Shaden says:

I’m always reading great things about MTV’s Awkward. So I must ask why it never makes it to TV worth watching? Just wondering.

    • Matt Webb Mitovich says:

Because we tend to run a lot of features/interviews on AWKWARD, which serve as tune-in reminders just as well. Gotta spread the love.

The most important words I type at the start of TVLine-Up each week are “As but a supplement to….

  25. Mark says:

You listed 2/3 of the Monday night Syfy lineup, but skipped the best of the bunch in WAREHOUSE 13!

    • Matt Webb Mitovich says:

I believe W13 has been included the past two weeks, or at least two out of 3, so…. Spread the wealth!
