Desperate Housewives Switcheroo: Andrea Parker In, Jessica Hecht Out as Tom's New GF

Tom’s new girlfriend on Desperate Housewives has undergone a last-minute makeover: Friends alum Jessica Hecht is out and Less Than Perfect‘s Andrea Parker is in.

According to an insider, talks between Hecht and Housewives broke down unexpectedly late Friday, at which point the role was offered to Parker.

Parker’s character, Jane, enters Tom’s life at a pivotal time: In Housewives‘ Season 7 finale, he and Lynette (Felicity Huffman) announced that they were sticking a fork in their nearly 20-year marriage.

Parker recently shot a recurring role in the forthcoming USA series Common Law.

Housewives eighth (and final) season launches on Sept. 25.

  1. Jessica says:

Andrea Parker rocks! Been a fan since her Pretender days.

  2. Scarlett Sharron says:

Andrea Parker & James Denton together again
AKA Ms. Parker and Mr. Lyle from The Pretender.

    • Vanny says:

Excellent! Now if only they would make James Denton’s character more like Mr Lyle – it would make it much more interesting. His character on DH bores me, which is sad..

  3. Shalom says:

In other words, your initial scoop was wrong and now you’re saying talks have broken down. Classic Peg.

    • Danyelle says:

The bigger question here is: Jessica Hecht drives a hard bargain??? What colour is the sky in HER world?

      • stop Yellen says:

Come on, haven’t we all said at one time or another, “I wouldn’t act on that crap show for one penny less than fifty grand!”
        Be honest.
        Love Ms.Parker though.

  4. Foghorn says:

Hell yes! Miss Parker & Mr Lyle together again on our tv screens! It makes me miss the days of “The Pretender” :(

    • tvfan says:

I am happy to see Miss Parker again on any show. I know that Tom will end up with Lynette, but honestly since the first season I never really got why they were together.

  5. Don Draper says:

This only makes the patheticness of the previous article on this subject increase by tenfold.

  6. sian says:

Lynette and tom should be together forever :-(

  7. chommy says:

Oh no lynette and tom should be together forever! They are meant to be!

  8. Jay says:

Nah, Lynette’s become an irrational b*tch in recent years. Have some guts Desperate Housewives writers and let them go their separate ways…that’s the reality of so many American’s lives…

  9. LadyA says:

I was fan of the pretender : Ms. Parker and Mr. Lyle from the pretender will be reunited again :)

  10. Jess says:

So let me get this straight. Tom didn’t have any free time to spend with his wife last season because of his job. This season he has time to woo another girlfriend? Someone push the man over a cliff in the mid season finale

  11. gina says:

Tom didn’t want to spend time with his wife last season. Big difference.

  12. Dwight says:

I just started watching “The Pretender” on Hulu a lot and wondered whatever happened to Miss Parker. :) Now I know!

  13. Sivat says:

Lynette is an emasculating shrew. I hope she and Tom stay apart—no last minute reunions just because it’s the final season! Tom deserves better.

  14. Mia says:

Such a better choice. She is a total knockout, sure to drive Lynette crazy.

  15. Mayra says:

I’ve always thought they should be together forever, but… yes, she is an emasculating bitch. I love her, but she is.

Is Tom gonna be able to find his place in the time they’ll stay apart? That’s the question. If things will stay the same, they better stay separated.

  16. Jess says:

I think Tom and Lynette are the worst couple in the history of TV couples and while yes Lynette is a emasculating bitch Tom is like a 13 year old trapped inside a grown mans body who has the same argument with Lynette over and over again, acts out like a 13 year old child, blames Lynette for everything bad that has happened in his life and quite often deserves to be emasculated. I dislike lynette at the best of times but I hate Tom all of the time. I wonder what amount of time he has with his kids in the next season, im guessing not much.

  17. Miffy says:

Always loved Andrea Parker – back to her days on “JAG” as its original female lead. NBC ordered the producers to replace her with some young blonde tootsie after the pilot (the producers still had Parker make guest appearances). When the show moved to CBS, they wanted to bring her back, but she was already committed to “The Pretender”.

My guess is that Tom and Lynette will be separated for most of the season, but they’ll reconcile toward the end.

  18. brutony says:

There BETTER be scenes between Miss Parker and Mr Lyle, and she can ask him how he got his thumb fixed, lol-thats an inside Pretender joke, BTW.

  19. Andrea says:

Wait, Common Law could potentially have Andrea Parker and Jennifer Finnegan in it? Awesome news!

I don’t watch DH, but I also remember Andrea from her JAG and Pretender days. Loved Miss Parker!

  20. Samantha says:

Why is everybody so down on Lynette? She has done nothing but support Tom. When he wanted to quit work and pretty much demanded that she go back to work, she did it. When he wanted to invest all their money in a pizza place, she did it. Tom acts like such a spoiled baby all the time. It’s like he was Lynette’s extra kid. Emasculating my ass. She was given no choice but to act like his mother.

    • ultimate troll says:

You’re right Tom, does act like a spoiled baby all the time. It’s almost as if some overlord is controlling his behavior to make him at least as bad as his awful wife so that she will look less like a shrew.

    • Robert says:

Sorry, but I do not think we have watched the same show. Lynette has cost Tom jobs, promotions and unless she is the Alpha female, and he is completely subordinate – she is outraged. The smallest thing (he forgot something at the store) gets blown all out of proportion by Lynette, and Tom just cannot apologize enough. Tom has always been relegated to second class status. Have power over another adult, treat them like a child – and guess what – they will not disappoint you when they finally do act like a child. Nice to see boys grow up and witness their father verbally emasculated every day. They will grow up and have very healthy relationships – not. You do cite very good points – mostly regarding Tom demanding to be treated as an equal. When Lynette made more money than he did – she never let him forget it – never. Many times he was told that when he made “the money” he would have a say in how it was spent. How many times would you let a husband/wife/life partner cut you to the bone that way before you walked out? It is a bad relationship – and no – Tom is far from perfect – but Lynette is a shrill harpy. “She had no choice but to act like his mother?” NO, I would say she had plenty of choices – if she was so unhappy she should have walked out 10 years earlier. Neither is blameless. I find Lynette’s character to be arrogant, self righteous and the self appointed moral judge of all those around her. Do remember it was Lynette who incited the mob that caused the heart attack, and subsequent death of the child molester’s sister? That act of stupidity – of course she regretted. She has caused almost as much damage as the so called ‘bad’ characters – except she has not killed anybody (directly) yet. Repentance? Too little, far too late. The molester – she also set him free to prey on children wholesale – just not in her back yard. In many occasions she may have had good intentions – but consistently lacked any thought that she could EVER be in the wrong, much less anticipate the consequences of her words or actions. No – Lynette has done far, far more than support Tom. She has crucified him at every opportunity.

Darn it I was just getting excited to see someone from Friends on this show. I actually met Jessica Hecht once
