Emmys 2011: Who Deserves the Award for Best Reality Show Host?

Emmy Season is upon us, and with a little more than five weeks until the Sept. 18 ceremony, we here at TVLine decided it was time to find out who you’re rooting for in all the key acting and show categories. We’ll kick things off today with the race for Outstanding Reality Show Host, a category that’s only been in existence since 2008, and has been won all three times by Jeff Probst. Of course, don’t assume Survivor‘s fiesty ringleader is a shoo-in for the four-peat; he faces tough competition from American Idol‘s Ryan Seacrest and Dancing With the Stars‘ Tom Bergeron, both of whom are nominated for the fourth consecutive year (but are still seeking their first wins), as well as The Amazing Race‘s Phil Keoghan (up for the third straight year), and first-time nominee Cat Deeley (So You Think You Can Dance).

Take our poll below to vote for your favorite, then hit the comments to justify your pick!

Every afternoon for the next month, we’ll launch another “Who Should Win” Emmy poll, so come back to TVLine.com every day to weigh in on who’s most worthy of TV’s biggest honor, and to stay up to speed on all our races, follow me on Twitter @MichaelSlezakTV!

  • Cat Deeley should win the Emmy hands down. She deserves it more than any of the rest. She has worked hard every season, and she is a HUGE part of the SYTYCD show. She makes all the contestants feel welcomed and cared about. She has a great personality and she is an expert at what she does!!!

  • Absolutely Cat. She has a way of making you feel like she’d be there talking to you if it were just you there in the audience. She’s very pretty but doesn’t have that “I’m so beautiful and you’re not.” vibe so many good looking women can put off. It’s like she would be your best friend too. That means she is appealing to women as well as men. She never fumbles, misses a beat or gets flustered. She is kind and fast on her feet if there’s a snafu. She is a great hostess. She deserves to win- hands down!!

  • Cat is the most amazing host ever. I don’t care for any of the other nominees anyway. Gooooo cat all the way! She deserves to win!

  • I like Ryan Seacrest, but he’s already had his time.

  • Cat! She hosts a live show. No editing. When there was a problems with the phone numbers, she got it straightened out before time ran out. She does a fantastic chance week in and out without the benefit of a redo.

  • Leah isn’t eligible because she’s on a Canadian show, so that’s a moot debate.

Cat is my choice. It IS harder to host live, and she’s never smarmy, never seems plastic or pre-rehearsed, she interacts with contestants sincerely, and she’s genuinely entertaining. She’s never insulting or snarky, either; she always manages to be fresh and genuinely entertaining without being too homogenized and goody-goody.

On the Probst thing, I’m not sure how much credit the guy should get for hosting a show well for the 88th season. I’d expect him to be a pro.

  • Cat is the best. Love how she keeps the show flowing. What could be an awkward live show moment isn’t thanks to her terrific gift of gab.

  • Cat is absolutely the best tv show host overall!! Not just in the best reality show host category. I have loved her humor, her relaxed and warm yet professional way for years! She can handle the unexpected with poise and there is no doubt she cares about the contestants. I love all the different beautiful outfits she wears. (Does she choose them?)

  • To me she’s the one person who seems to actually care, have genuine affection for these contestants. All others just appear to be doing their job. I can’t agree with Nigel he wants Ryan to win first. Sorry, he’s too cold for me.

  • Cat Seeley for sure!!! Funny, caring, down to earth, gorgeous and knows it but in a good way. She just seems to love what she does and she’s good at it. Her stylists are awesome too! This show is so exciting and inspiring and cat is great at spreading that message. Just want to sit down and talk to her. Shed just got that thing…charisma.

  • Cat Deeley is the correct choice for this award.

  • I feel as if Tim Gunn would be the perfect choice even though he’s not technically a “Host.” I also feel as if Padma is one of the better hosts in this category considering she really is a chef/expert on food. Can Ryan sing? Could Jeff really survive? Can Cat dance?

  • Gorgeous Cat Deeley

  • Wow. You can’t be more wrong with stating that Cat is just a news giver. Have you really watched the show? What she does is genius. And you write it off because she gives us that gorgeous smile and makes it all looks so effortless (since she is THAT good at it)

  • Definitely Cat and definitely NOT Seacrest. Seacrest sometimes comes off as likeable but a lot of times he comes off as incredibly douchey and it’s only gotten worse as the show continues on.
