Emmy Nominations: My Snappy Judgments

I’m Super-Ecstatic About:
* The nods for Friday Night Lights‘ Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton — and finally the show itself!
* Parks and Recreation up for best comedy series.
* All the Justified love, including nods for Timothy Olyphant, Walton Goggins, Margo Martindale and Jeremy Davies.
* Martha Plimpton snagging a lead actress nod for Raising Hope.
* Ed O’Neill finally getting a Modern Family nod.
* Jim Parsons and Johnny Galecki snagging lead actor nods for The Big Bang Theory. Plus, the show itself squeaks into the best comedy race!
* The Good Wife‘s rockin’ female trio (Julianna Margulies, Archie Panjabi, and Christine Baranski) all making the cut again.
* Michelle Forbes’ supporting nod for The Killing. Ditto Mireille Enos for lead actress.
* Glee‘s stellar guest stars — Gwyneth Paltrow, Kristin Chenoweth and Dot Marie Jones — all making the cut.

I’m Rolling My Eyes About:
* Two words:
Kathy. Bates. Love her, but no.
* Two more words: The Kennedys.

I’m Super-Pissed About:
* Emmy flunking Community.
Again.
* No love for Cougar Town.
* The absence of Fringe‘s Anna Torv and John Noble.
* Southland getting bubkes.
* Sons of Anarchy’s Katey Sagal getting screwed.
 Again.
* Diddlysquat for Parks and Recreation‘s stellar supporting cast, particularly Nick Offerman.
* No major nods for The Walking Dead.

Okay, that’s my two cents’ worth. Now it’s your turn. Post your own snappy judgments below. And click here to view a list of all the major nominees.

Why no Emmy nod for Naya Rivera, Glee & Paget Brewster, Criminal Minds, Jessica Capshaw, Grey’s Anatomy? The 3 really deserved one for the work they did and which made bearable the last season of their respective show! :(
Very disappointed for Naya whose the performance enlighted the show! :(

  2. justin says:

ummm… BIG LOVE!!!! i know it wasn’t always the greatest… but it was the last season of a 5 season show which did a pretty decent job of taking a lifestyle most people think of as ‘completely disgusting and degrading’ and made it relatable … something that should be awarded atleast once

  3. Lois says:

Pissed that “Sherlock” and it’s stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman weren’t nominated.

  4. Nadine says:

HIMYM and The Middle, including Jason Segal and Eden Sher, should have received noms.

  5. dudaynibarney says:

i hate you EMMY for doing this ..
for a constant list of crap nominees ?? REALLY ?? JON CRYER more like JASON SEGEL or NPH atleast give him a chance to win an EMMY for this forte ..
but what have you done EMMY ?? you pissed off all over it and it was a terrible idea ..

  6. Sayid says:

An actor/actress should not get an award on two episodes; i’m sorry but Bones was not a strong enough series this year or the previous others; minus season 1 and 2 to nominate.

I don’t understand why everyone drinks the Bones kool-aid because it’s not a strong show; it’s a boob comedy that every year might have one or three hard hitting episodes; but to be nominated for 3 episodes while other actors give much better performances then just 3 outstanding episodes? Hale no.

I applaud the Emmy’s for not recognizing this show.

Boreanaz has given better performances on Buffy/Angel; and Deschanel just isn’t a strong enough contender; not compared to the rest of them who were nominated. IF they were to be nominated for Bones it should have been done in seasons 1 and 2; when the show mattered, had heart. This show lost it’s heart and it’s soul to give the fans a ridiculous plot of their even more ridiculous relationship. The writers don’t care about the show; and the actors aren’t given ANYTHING positive to work with.

P.S Fringe deserves it way over Bones. IT may be a fantasy show but it is more realistic then Bones on one of Bones good days.

  7. Ariel says:

Fringe was absolutely robbed. It’s just more of the same year after after year with the Emmy noms.

  8. PFitzDC says:

    Mariska Hargitay AGAIN?
Come on…she’s a fine actress, but she’s not upping her game and doing anything different with the role (which was already cut back to the point that in some episodes she has a whopping two lines).
    Totally wasted nomination.

  9. carla says:

Love all the nominations for “The Good Wife,” especially for Alan Cumming!

Speaking of TGW, Lisa Edelstein and Hugh Laurie made utter gold out of the awful mess of this past season’s “House” and both should have been nominated, not just Laurie.

And why no recognition for the superior work of Wendell Pierce, Clarke Peters, Melissa Leo, and above all Khandi Alexander on “Treme?” They are all terrific, as is David Morse in a strong supporting role.

  10. RickJM says:

Rolling your eyes about The Kennedys? Really Mikey? Did you even watch it? It got 10 nominations. It’s not like they sneaked in. As a liberal Hollywood journalist, I would think you’d champion a show that The History Channel, the Kennedys, and a lot of other people in Hollywood tried to blacklist.

  11. Laugh says:

All 3 ladies from Cougar Town (Laugh!) and PSYCH! PSYCH! PSYCH! PSYCH! Shawn and Gus FTW!!!! What?

  12. Victoria says:

i had alot of rolling eyes when i saw the list of nominees. Two words… LISA EDELSTEIN!! Why has this talented woman not even been nominated?? Just disgusted, my heart goes out to her.

  13. Jessy says:

I hope Friday Night Lights wins everything. It deserves it.

  14. Jayant says:

    A few actually!
    – Sucks that there wasn’t a single nod for USoT. Agreed that the show’s been cancelled, but hey, show some love, it was a great show with one of the most stellar performances I’ve ever seen on TV!
    – Snub for Jennifer Carpenter AGAIN!
    – Obviously, NPH deserved a nomination, though, I’m not too sure if he deserved to win this year.
    – Also, I think it’s about time the Kenneth guy from 30 Rock got some attention. He’s TOO good to be constantly ignored like this!

  15. July says:

Where’s Sean Bean from Game of Thrones? I’m happy that they nominated Peter Dinklage, but why not Sean?? ;_; Oh! And same thing for John Noble from Fringe! I mean… come on!

And Kristin Chenoweth should have been nominated last year, because this season her character lacked intensity. I hope Dot-Marie wins, she’s brilliant!

About Jim Parsons and Johnny Galecki, they are both great, but Jim’s character is just greater. He should totally win. And Big Bang should win best comedy also.

    Just giving my 2 cents.

  16. PLF says:

Fringe? come on, although the whole waggon here is complaining, a lot of big shows deserved a nomination too and they didnt get it, If theres recognition to this show next time the EMMY’s will add some presenter from Fringe, is not fair, but is an small Tv serie.
