Jeff Probst Lands CBS Talk Show -- Is He Voting Himself Off Survivor?

You can go ahead and scratch Jeff Probst’s name off the short list of possible Regis Philbin replacements — the Survivor host is getting his own talk show.

Probst has inked a deal with CBS Distribution to headline a syndicated daytime gabfest beginning in fall 2012, but that doesn’t necessarily mean his Survivor days are numbered. The Emmy winner will likely shoot the reality juggernaut during his talk show’s summer hiatus.

“I’m fascinated with human nature and thrilled that this show will allow me the opportunity to connect with real people and explore their stories on a personal level,” Probst says. “As I continue with Survivor, I am excited to extend my relationship with CBS with this new adventure in the world of daytime.”

The news comes less than a month after former CBS Evening News anchor Katie Couric announced plans to front her own daytime talk show for ABC beginning in fall 2012.

Comments are monitored, so don’t go off topic, don’t frakkin’ curse and don’t bore us with how much your coworker’s sister-in-law makes per hour. Talk smart about TV!

Very glad this means he’s out of the running for the Regis replacement job.

  2. George says:

Uh oh! Does this mean Y&R or B&B is on the chopping block?

  3. ChrisLav says:

Wouldn’t the talk show actually shoot during the winter, since Survivor is usually in production in the summer? Nicaragua filmed June 14 – July 22 & Redemption Island August 16 – September 23.

It’s believe that new season is being filmed now

There is no Survivor without Jeff Probst. I’ve watched every single season of this show and will keep on watching. He’s got a real talent…good for him for getting this gig (but, does the world REALLY need another talk show?). I just hope he sticks with Survivor on and on and on and on…

Daytime will already be overstuffed with vanity talk shows this fall — I wonder how many of them will still be around next year when his debuts.

  6. Bob says:

Celebrities make agreements all the time for future daytime talk shows. Doesn’t mean they all make it. No guarantees here if his concept/pilot doesn’t hit on all cylinders.

  7. Are you all serious bro's says:

This guy was hosting Rock & Roll Jeopardy before Survivor on basic cable.

He is compotent at what he does but there is no reason someone couldn’t easily fill into the role he had. Simon was a much bigger part of American Idol and the show continued smoothly without him.

His interactions with the contestants have gone from engaging in the early seasons to someone who interjects himself into the proceedings when it should be about the Survivor contestants. Imo him leaving would inject some new life into a series that is riding in cruise control in Mediocreville.

Jeff please take Lisa your day time show .i loved the show, but now she is on with that voice.i don’t watch.
