Lifetime has tapped Rob Lowe (Parks and Recreation) to star as Drew Peterson in an original movie about onetime Chicago-area police sergeant who in May 2009 was charged with the murder of his third wife, Kathleen Savio, after authorities investigated the disappearance of his fourth wife, Stacy.

Kaley Cuoco (The Big Bang Theory) will play Stacy, who was 23 years old at the time of her October 2007 vanishing — 30 years Peterson’s junior.

According to sister site Deadline, the TV-movie — tentative titled The Drew Peterson Story aka Ladykiller, and based on the nonfiction book Fatal Vows: The Tragic Wives of Drew Peterson — will explore the two cases and any possible connection. Teena Booth (of Lifetime’s Natalee Holloway telepics) penned it, and filming will take place this summer during the Parks and Rec/Big Bang Theory hiatuses.

Some background on Peterson and his two ill-fated wives: Savio’s February 2004 death was originally was ruled an accidental bathtub drowning. But upon exhuming her body years later, authorities declared it a homicide staged to look like an accident. Savio and Peterson had divorced just prior to her death.

When Stacy Peterson vanished in 2007 shortly after contacting a divorce attorney, Drew Peterson publicly theorized that she had run off with another man. But as evidence mounted that he had murdered Savio, he became a prime suspect in wife No. 4′s disappearance.

Peterson currently resides in the Will County Correctional Center in Joliet Ill., awaiting trial.

  • Tim Allen would be a closer match to the real Drew Peterson. Casting Lowe is a ridiculous choice.

  • This is a ridiculous choice in casting. Fully understand that actors need not be identical in appearance in real-life portrayals but come on… this is beyond a stretch. Part of the ick- factor with Peterson is that he fancies himself a desirable lothario of a man but falls far short in most women’s eyes.

  • Lowe is way too attractive to play Peterson. How are they going to ‘ugly’ him up?

    • I think that while he is very “pretty” he’s also able to play uber creepy. I swear, even sometimes on Parks and Rec, he gets this intense look in his eyes that creeps me out. Aside from that I’ve never seen a movie made about a real person where the actor actually looked like that person unles they were already attractive.

  • I agree, poor choice using Rob Lowe. Look at the real killer, please!!!

  • Rob did a great job playing a pretty despicable actor on Californication. So why not Rob… Make up artists can make him look anyway they need.

    • I guess that is true. It has been done to a few actresses I can think of.

  • What odd casting! Peterson is not a particularly attractive or charming man. Can’t figure out why Lowe OR Cuoco would stoop to this kind of made-for-TV trash.

  • They should have cast him as the other Ladykiller…Scott Peterson.

  • What is the obsession with Rob Lowe. He looks like an older man that is still a teenager. Who thinks he can handle the Drew Peterson role. You need a bigger, hunkier narcissistic actor to play him. I can’t imagine taking it seriously watching Lowe. Rethink.

  • They picked the wrong Parks and Rec actor…..Nick Offerman would’ve been perfect. He even has the mustache. The real Drew Peterson seems like a narcastic douche so I’m sure he’s loving the fact that Rob Lowe will be playing him in a movie, even if it’s about him being a woman hating murderer.

    • Sorry…… Supposed to say narcissist

  • Rob played a killer significant other/husband on a Lifetime movie/mini-series before and did a good job. I’m generally not a Rob Lowe fan but that was very good, too bad I don’t remember the name. The blonde from Cold Case was the female star. Rob has that sleezy stuff going on already.

I don’t think the actor and real person need to be similar looking, we’d loose out on a lot of good looking actors if that were true.

  • Rob Lowe is a very fine actor who could portray creepy very well, but I agree with those who say the actor should look somewhat like the character they’re portraying. Living in the Chicago area, we saw Drew Peterson daily on our tv screens. He’s a big jowly, paunchy, mustached middle aged man. The only thing he has in common with Rob Lowe is his age. Maybe they think they’ll get more women to watch with the casting of Rob Lowe. Kaley Cuoco looks a little like Stacy Peterson though.

  • What is Rob Lowe’s destiny? A flaccid penis with a scrotal hydrocele complicated by an inflamed prolapsed rectum. He is a dirty old bugger. I look forward to reading his future memoirs. Rob Lowe and Drew Peterson have much in common, their complete disregard for women and daughters of other mothers and fathers.
