Ask Ausiello: Spoilers on Castle, True Blood, Glee, Dexter, 90210 and More!

Got a scoop request? An anonymous tip you’re dying to share? Just want to say hi? Send any/all of the above to askausiello@tvline.com

Question: Now that the writers have returned to work on Castle, do you have any scoop? Any further tidbits on the new female captain you mentioned last week? —Cheryl
Ausiello:
According to some just-released character intel, the new boss lady cut her teeth in Internal Affairs and views the captain’s chair as nothing more than a stepping-stone to a bigger, more prominent job. She also has a rep for being a bit of a hard-ass to her co-workers, but she also has a fun and flirtatious side. Got casting tips? Hit the comments!

Question: Thanks for all the True Blood scoop in AA last week — but what about Alcide? Got anything on my favorite werebeast? —Allison
Ausiello:
He’s doesn’t actually show up until Episode 3 (airing July 10), when Sookie drops by his new suburban crib to ask a favor of him. She quickly discovers that his change of address is but one of two major surprises the big lug has in store for her.

Question: Any chance John Lithgow will appear next season on How I Met Your Mother? —Carter
Ausiello:
“We absolutely want to see John Lithgow again,” says exec producer Craig Thomas. “We’re hoping to bring [him] back. We’re also hoping to see Frances Conroy as Barney’s mom. I know John Lithgow specifically would love to work with her.”

Question: Do you know if there are any plans for Supernatural to do another meta-ish episode next season? Or was last season’s “The French Mistake” the last one? —Annie
Ausiello:
Sounds like the fourth wall will come crumbling down yet again. “We have not put the kibosh on meta,” insists exec producer Sera Gamble. “It’s completely about somebody pitching a story that would work for us.” Gamble acknowledges that “The French Mistake” — in which Sam and Dean were transported to an alt-reality where they were “Jared Padalecki” and “Jensen Ackles,” the stars of a TV series called Supernatural — will be tough to top. “We set a pretty high bar,” she concedes. “But hey, I thought we were never going to be able to do meta again long before ‘The French Mistake.’ And then that got pitched, and we had to do it, of course. I wouldn’t be surprised if at some point in Season 7 or beyond, someone pitches something that enables us to do a fun episode like that again.”

Question: This is my first time ever asking for a spoiler here, but with Rookie Blue‘s second season starting soon, I would love some info on it — particularly about Sam and Andy. Got anything good that isn’t already on the web? —Gwen
Ausiello:
Fingers crossed this isn’t already on the web: Sam gets an offer to go back to his guns-and-gangs gig, but he’s a little reluctant to leave. Hmm, wonder why?

Question: What’s the latest on Jessalyn Gilsig’s status with Glee? —Rion
Ausiello:
She won’t be returning next season as a series regular, but don’t be surprised if Terri pops in from time to time to wreak her own special brand of havoc.

Question: I’m can’t tell you how happy I am that The Killing has been renewed, but I need to know which castmembers are returning — and I need to know now. —Paige
Ausiello:
If I’m hearing you correctly, you want to know which castmembers are returning for Season 2 of The Killing. And you’d prefer to receive that information sooner rather than later. Did I miss anything? OK, here’s what I can tell you: Mireille Enos and Joel Kinnaman will definitely be back as partners in crimesolving Linden and Holder, respectively. Everyone else is TBD. THIS JUST IN: I can now confirm that Jamie Anne Allman — a.k.a. Mitch’s part-time hooker sis, Terry — will also be returning full-time, which pretty much confirms the show will remain in Seattle and maintain some sort of tie with the Larsen clan. Veddy interesting.

Question: I love TVLine! Can I get some White Collar scoop, please? —George
Ausiello:
Next week’s episode sends “Diana undercover as an assistant to a journalist from hell,” reveals series creator Jeff Eastin. “It’s our version of The Devil Wears Prada. [It] gives [Marsha Thomason] a chance to shine a little bit.” And use her real cockney accent!

Question: I’d like some White Collar scoop, please. Lately all spoilers were of the Neal/Sara variety, and I’m so tired of it. I watch for bromance, not romance. So anything at all interesting about Neal and Peter, pretty please? Their partnership should remain the heart of the show! —Lyn
Ausiello:
If I’m hearing you correctly, you want some scoop on Peter’s wife Elizabeth, played by Tiffani Thiessen. Did I miss anything? OK, here’s what I, or rather Mr. Eastin, can tell you: “We have a very specific Elizabeth episode [coming up]. It’s called ‘Rear Window.’ Elizabeth’s at home, and Peter’s left a police scanner there. She happens to pick up what she believes is a report of somebody about to commit a robbery very close to their house. It actually ends up being her and Mozzie that start their own investigation to see if they can figure out what’s going on. That ends up sucking Peter and Neal into it.”

Question: Is there any news about Dexter Season 6? —John
Ausiello:
Remember me telling you a few weeks back that the show was casting the recurring role of an elementary school teacher? Well, I’m fairly certain there’s a connection between that and this.

Question: Dexter scoop, por favor? —Fletch
Ausiello:
CS Lee (Masuka) hinted to TVLine at Monday’s 2nd Annual SAG Foundation Golf Classic that Edward James Olmos’ character, a professor of religious studies, just might turn out to be one of this season’s baddies, if not the baddie. “It seems to be that way,” he teased. “The guy is such a wonderful actor and such a presence that you would probably shoot yourself in the foot if you didn’t do that. He’s going to be great.” As for his own subplot, Lee said, “I have a few ‘lab helpers’ coming in this year. They’re either going to help me or they’re going to get me in trouble. We’ll see what happens.”

Question: Do you think Fox will renew Breaking In? They still haven’t made a final decision as far as I know. —Angela
Ausiello:
Um, this is awkward. I’m sorry you had to find out this way but I’m pretty sure the show is not coming back. Whose job was it to keep Angela posted about this?! Don’t look at me. I have enough on my plate.

Question: Drop Dead Diva is coming back in less than a week and I am psyched! I read a teaser that a character will “go away forever, and another’s life will be dramatically changed.” Any chance you could dig up some scoop about that? —Samantha
Ausiello:
It’s true. “After Episode 4, one of our characters will be gone forever,” confirms exec producer Josh Berman. “I don’t want to give away too much, but I can definitely say that one of our characters is going away in an unexpected way.”

Question: You’ve been awfully quiet about Torchwood: Miracle Day after announcing that you received the first three episodes. What say you, oh wise one? —Claire
Ausiello:
I say with a heavy heart that I liked it, but I didn’t love it. The show has always zigged and zagged between multiple personalities — and unapologetically so. It’s part soap opera, part sci-fi thriller, part cheesy B-movie, part a few other things, just for fun. And that schizophrenia has always been a part of its charm. But in the U.S.-set Miracle Day, the bouncing between tones seems more pronounced, making it hard to tell whether we’re supposed to be laughing with the show or at it. Perhaps even more upsetting (to me, anyway) is that the premise sounded so provocative — everyone on Earth stops dying. Yet the execution over the first few episodes was decidedly (gasp) boring. (Too much time is focused on the Americans learning what and who Torchwood is. And the less said about the dull, duller, dullest Bill Pullman subplot, the better.) But like I said, I didn’t hate it. In fact, with Jack and Gwen still their awesome selves, I did like it, at least. On top of that, the Jane Espenson-penned Episode 3 — featuring two TV-MA-rated sex scenes (one straight, one gay) — was a marked improvement over the first two, so, assuming the momentum continues, a “miracle” may yet occur.

Question: I’m an AA virgin. This is my first time asking a question, so be gentle. Any word on who the boss will be when The Office returns in the fall? —Adam
Ausiello:
All I know is who it probably won’t be: Catherine Tate. At least that’s what I’m hearing. If true, it’s a total bummer.

Question: I just had a Shameless marathon and I am in love with this show. Could you please try to get some Season 2 scoop? Please tell me Steve will come back to Fiona! —Rae Lynn
Ausiello:
Steve will sorta come back to Fiona, only his name won’t be Steve. And he won’t be played by Justin Chatwin. Allow me to explain: Producers are adding the new recurring role of Mark, a 27-year-old hottie who possesses an over-developed sense of self worth that is very reminiscent of Fiona’s Season 1 beau. Got casting tips? Hit the comments!

Question: Thanks for the heads-up that Brittany Snow and Aml Ameen are not returning to Harry’s Law. I was wondering if Christopher McDonald will be back as Tommy? I loved his character and the way he played off Kathy Bates. —Victoria
Ausiello:
Yes, he will be back — and he’ll be joined by two newbies filling the Jenna/Malcolm void. “Oliver Pritchard” is a hot-shot, big-gun attorney who, in spite of his track record and mischievous charms, needs Harry’s help on a whopper of a murder case. And Cassie Reynolds is the firm’s new associate, pretty and also pretty darn eager to impress the boss.

Should Tom Welling Replace Lisa Edelstein on House?

Question: Do you do Ask Ausiello all summer or do you take a hiatus? Just curious. —Sara
Ausiello:
No hiatus for AA, but perhaps a week off here and there to give me time to work up my annual campaign for Sexiest Vegetarian Celebrity. As a matter of fact, this year’s contest is just getting underway at PETA.org (hint, hint). Although in the past, the closest I’ve come to winning was being a runner-up to Prince, I’m confident that in 2011, especially with the competition’s new emphasis on social media (starting with twitter; hashtag #sexyvegceleb), I’ve got a real shot at it. I mean, what other nominee has Ausholes, right? Not Russell Brand, not Kristen Wiig, not Olivia Wilde. So it would really be embarrassing for me you if I didn’t finally come out on top.

Question: Do you have any Weeds scoop? —John
Ausiello:
You already know that Season 7 (debuting June 27) picks up three years after the events of Season 6. What you don’t know is what Doug has been up to during those lost three years, other than he was in Copenhagen. And that’s where the scoop comes in. “Doug got a job working as an accountant for IKEA — if that is in Denmark,” reveals his portrayer, Kevin Nealon. “Now he’s back stateside again.”

Question: Is Trevor Donovan the only cast member being cut from 90210? —Jamie
Ausiello:
As of this writing, yes, it’s just him. However, you’d think the show was undergoing a more massive overhaul based on the slew of new recurring characters being introduced in the fall. Among them:

| Austin: A charming and hunky cowboy à la Brad Pitt in Thelma & Louise. He’s the son of a country music superstar. As such, he’s wealthy, but not in an obnoxious way.

| Holly: Naomi’s super-wealthy, sorority-obsessed archrival at California U.

| Jasmeen: Navid’s 18-year-old troublemaking, self-absorbed younger sister.

| Gabe: The anti-Liam in that he’s friendly, outgoing and extremely communicative. An upperclassman at CU, Gabe forges an instant connection with Annie — but he may have an ulterior motive.

| Jane: A mysterious new love interest for Liam who became a widow at a young age. Think Ingrid Bergman in Casablanca.

Question: The wife and I are fans of House and Game of Thrones and noticed the acting style, smiles and air about Peter Dinklage and Hugh Laurie are very similar. We thought it would be great pairing of actors if they could ever work together. Have you or anyone else in the entertainment circles noticed this as well? —Brian
Ausiello:
I totally noticed it while watching Sunday’s shocking GoT! Their mannerisms and acting style are very similar, they totally need to do something together. I’ll plant the bug in Hugh’s ear next time we meet for tea at the Plaza.

  1. CMack says:

I would love to see Kelli Williams on Castle as the new chief. Or Jennifer Beals.

    • Georgia Madman says:

Why not Christina Hendricks as the new captain on Castle. Madmen is not shooting so she has the time. And we know she can do “bad.”

      • Jeremy W. says:

Agree 100%! Our Mrs. Reynolds should be the next captain of the twelfth precinct. The show has paid homage to Firefly many times, and I don’t think this would be any different. Any chance to see Hendricks on screen would be welcome, and would definitely give the writers a chance to challenge the Castle-Beckett relationship.

  2. Captain says:

So they went through the trouble of putting Annie/Liam back together in the finale just to break them up again? Pathetic.

  3. DRDarkeNY says:

As for the CASTLE Lady Captain, I sort of suggested something like this on the IMDB boards a few months back as a change-up from “old school cop” Montgomery: A woman close to Rick Castle’s age who is elegant, capable and more street-smart than her “political cop” surface suggests, who is *also* a Richard Castle fan and (unlike Kate Beckett) perfectly happy to let Rick know it. I figured she’d know there was more going on in the Johanna Beckett homicide than originally came out, and assume the best way to keep Kate from getting shot at every time she went outdoors would be to promote her to Sergeant (in the NYPD a Sergeant is a junior level Supervisor – it’s also a desk job, which Kate would loathe).

To make things worse, New Lady Captain would be somebody Kate knows about and looks up to as the kind of cop she wants to ultimately be – so this woman getting on so well with Rick Castle would drive Kate nuts, and to make it worse it’s not as if Kate’s ever staked any claim to him, has she? In fact, the last time we heard them talk, she threw him out of her life!

As for who? I pictured Louise Lombard – Sofia Curtis (the cool elegant blonde CSI-turned cop) on CSI for a couple years. But if they wanted to add a bit more ethnic variety, Lucy Liu might also work brilliantly. Both women are in their early Forties so they’re of an age w/Nathan Fillion – and about a decade older than Stana Katic, which could set up an interesting mentor-competitor dynamic.

  4. Joon says:

Elizabeth Mitchell for Castle, Elizabeth Mitchell!!!

  5. Kristi says:

Oh, Torchwood. Hopefully it’ll get better. As an American, I’m honestly horrified about it being brought to and set in America with a primarily American cast. I guess I have no problem with them doing a story in America, but I really wish they didn’t have to you know, hold the hand of the new viewers and drag them through the first half of the series yelling “Catch up! Catch up!”.

Now on to this Hugh Laurie/Peter Dinklage thing…I’d love to see them together, though I must say I’ve never seen the similarity in their acting styles. I’ve seen them each as having distinctly their own style. However, I haven’t seen how Dinklage is approaching Tyrion yet so maybe I can’t say. (I’m not amongst the privileged that can afford premium cable channels) any who – Dinklage and Laurie should be cast in the inevitable remake of the Schwarzenegger/DeVito starring “Twins”.

  6. Nat says:

The “French Mistake” was the worst meta episode Supernatural ever did. They could do all the meta they want as long as it’s not anything as awful as that.

  7. Jessica says:

No! I don’t want a new beau for Fiona! I LOVE Fiona & Steve/Jimmy. Here’s what I’m hoping for…the first season of Shameless very closely followed the plot of the first couple of seasons of the UK version. In the UK version, Fiona does have another beau but ends up with Steve. I REALLY hope that’s what happens here. I mean, I’m kinda annoyed that the storylines are so much the same so far. I would like to see the show make it’s own storylines rather than following the same path the UK version lead. And I’d prefer Fiona & Steve to stick around. BUT I do hope that Fiona & Steve end up together, please please please!!!

  8. Amy says:

Been a fan of Torchwood since it started, yes the first season was really bad but I kept watching for Captain Jack and my love of Dr Who. Season 2 – much better but still a bit b-movie on a silly scale but then Children of Earth came along and not only was it the best they had produced but it was the best of British drama that was on at the time. I am now extremely apprehensive about Miracle Day. Oh I’ll be watching! But I do hope we don’t have another Outcasts on our hands cos that was supposed to be awesome but was really not (the moral of that particular story is: not to kill off Jamie Bamber in the first episode!).

    Rant over :)

  9. kate says:

i don’t really mind (for now) who the new capatin is, but hear me now, if she is a B*tch to any of the original cast, shes gonna be meeting my foot up her a$$. just saying.

  10. Jennifer says:

OMG you posted about Rookie Blue!! Thank you so much! Keep the Sam and Andy spoilers coming please! :)

  11. Emerald says:

“The show has always zigged and zagged between multiple personalities — and unapologetically so. It’s part soap opera, part sci-fi thriller, part cheesy B-movie, part a few other things, just for fun. And that schizophrenia has always been a part of its charm.”

Next time, please don’t correlate Schizophrenia with multiple personalities, by doing so you are contributing to the misunderstanding of the illness.

  12. dan says:

I don’t understand why aren’t they promoting Beckett and bringing in a rookie for Castle/Beckett to trai – the mum(mom)/dad dynamic would be fantastic. But as they’re probably going to being in new blood, I’d suggest Paola Turbay or Tricia Helfer. I like the Elizabeth Mitchell idea.

  13. Jason says:

I absolutely loved the French mistake, it’s one of my all time favourite episodes, and one of the funniest episodes I’ve ever seen, supernatural do serious, action and comedy so well! This is the show to beat! And The French mistake moved the story along nicely.
at the, particulary at the the last 5 mins of the show! So I would love to see more meta episodes!

  14. McScotty says:

dude! I love AA and appreciate you taking the time, but “they’re acting styles”?!

  15. Jessica says:

Maybe it’s just the geek in me, but if Gina Torres became Castle and Beckett’s new boss I would just die!

  16. Melanie says:

What about Lisa Edelstein as hard-ass flirtatious new boss of Castle?
If she doesn’t get her own show…

  17. Mairead says:

What about Charisma Carpenter as Montgomery’s replacement on Castle?

  18. Niamh says:

Re white collar and Marsha Thomason using her “real” cockney accent. How can she do that when she comes from Manchester? Cockneys are from East London you Idiot! Love it when you take no time to do a bit of basic research or are just not interested enough to care!

  19. Lola says:

Mmm … this new captain looks like a new problem in the relation Becket-Castle. Am I mistaken?

  20. Sarah says:

How exactly was the “Spoiler” for White Collar any different than the preview for the new show that they showed last night? You can get a week preview on most TV guides these days…
I feel like these “spoilers” have been lacking since he left the other site and it is a shame. I can read the exact same stuff on 10 different websites about these shows but followed Ausiello because he used to seem to offer something different. Has anyone else noticed this?
I mean he even repeated the question back as an answer for the Drop Dead Diva question just phrased a little differently…

  21. Kirstin says:

No Steve?!! BAD Shameless, BAD! And so not the storyline :P

  22. Jaclyn says:

The only suggestion that I could possibly make for female Captain who is hot, can flirt with Castle and plays a hardass well – then I think we’re looking at Eliza Duskhu

  23. He-Touches-Things says:

I want someone like CCH Pounder for the new Captain on Castle. I know she’s already on Warehouse 13, but I can wish, can’t I?

  24. Erika says:

For the Castle casting I agree with most of the entries that suggest Elizabeth Mitchell she will be perfect. Morena Baccarin and Gina Torres sound good too, adding some more Latin flavor sounds good. Hmmm…Eliza Dushku seems to young in my opinion for the position. Evangeline Lilly not sure about her…maybe. But most definitely Elizabeth Mitchell would be my choice.

  25. Weasie says:

Ok, for the new Castle boss (if I HAD to choose a woman)I know she is already on another show but I LOVE,LOVE,LOVE Angie Harmon. I quit watching L&O when she left. She would be perfect.

    • J says:

LOVE this idea! She would be awesome. Or Jill Hennessy. Not into the whole Elizabeth Mitchell idea….blah. Plus, who says she has to flirt with Castle? just says she has a flirtatious side…..there are two other cute guys in the cast! ;) And tension doesn’t have to mean in a romantic sense….it will be tense because they’ll all have to adjust to a new captain and maybe the tension will come from her not approving of Castle’s position as Beckett’s “partner”.

    • J says:

Oh yeah, just remembered who else would be cool (if she wasn’t on another show, that is) – Sela Ward. I liked the Rene Russo idea as well.

    • J says:

Or Ally Walker if her new show on Lifetime doesn’t work out….not great ratings so far apparently….

  26. Laura says:

Gina Torres for the new Captain on Castle. She has great raport with Fillion, and the age to make it believable that she could be a captain. Plus just think of all the in jokes every time he has to call her Captain.

  27. Jeanne says:

I actually think Portia DeRossi would be all kinds of awesome as the Captain. I could really see her mixing it up with Nathan. Elisabeth Mitchell would be awesome, too. But she’s awesome in everything she does.

  28. Kristy says:

I loved Marsha Thomason on “Lost” and other shows, but find her grating on “White Collar” quite possibly as she does the WORST American accent. Please—just Neal, Mozzie and Peter folks. The female characters on the show are not so great.

  29. nin9sev7n says:

Few names in mind starting out with Lisa Edelstein who left House, she could be perfect for the role of Captain. Also Julia Ormond, she should be almost done by now on Law and Order, C.I. Saw her in Survaillance, great movie. Also, Elizabeth Mitchell, she plays arrogant, no-nonsense characters, saw her in Law and Order SVU recently and she was beyond great! and finally last but not least: Shohreh Aghdashloo, her personality, acting abilty and her voice!! are main characteristics that make her perfect for this role!

  30. mcat says:

Jennifer Beals, Gina Torres, or Louise Lombard as the new captain on Castle!

  31. Andrea says:

    Re: Castle

I love the Alison Janney idea, but I’d also like to reflect the multicultural aspect of authority as Capt. Montgomery did. How about Anna Deaveare Smith, also of The West Wing?

  32. Natalie says:

Didn’t they say they wanted a 40 something female boss on Castle?? Most of the better suggestions are too young.

    • Taryn says:

Not sure if they ever specified an age, but I agree that most of the actors suggested seem too young to play believable captains since it takes time to get to the captain rank. I do think that either Gina Tores or Elizabeth Mitchell would make great Captains. And I was also thinking Susanna Thompson who played Army Lt. Col Hollis Mann on NCIS

  33. Ely says:

For the new captain in Castle, I would really like to see Diane Neal in this role! I love her in SVU! Elizabeth Mitchell would be great too!

  34. MCO says:

As the new boss for Castle. I don’t have a name that hasn’t already been wrote here. But I think it could be really fun to watch the Captain totally into Castle, being a fan, showing it and try to flirt with him. But Castle just treated her politly and as a fan, but not responding to her interest. Even worst, He could be oblivious to the fact the new boss is into him.
Because I couldn’t see Castle showing an interest in another woman after the last words he said to Beckett.

  35. northernstar says:

And use her real cockney accent!

White Collar’s Marsha Thomason is a northern lass from Manchester and has the accent to match. Cockney is London :) Great to see Diana getting her own plot!

  36. Roma says:

ELIZABETH MITCHELL FOR NEW CAPTAIN ON CASTLE!!!!!!! Pleaseeee!!!

  37. Craig says:

I’m not a particularly big fan of HIMYM, and even I’ll tune in for a John Lithgow-Frances Conroy episode. That’s brilliant!

  38. Olivia says:

I think casting Reiko Aylesworth (of “24” and “Lost”) as the new captain would be a brilliant decision for so many reasons. She’s just ridiculously underrated.

    • Rachael says:

Oooh, I would love that! Totally agree, she’s underrated and I can’t understand why. She really needs to be on my TV more regularly!

  39. Allison says:

    No Catherine Tate!! Nooooo. :(

  40. Wtm says:

Reiko Aylesworth as captain please! Watch any 24 episode (and I mean ANY) and then tell me she’s not perfect for this sort of thing.

  41. Krissi G says:

Morena Baccarin would be awesome at playing the new Captain on Castle. Not to mention… Firefly reunion?

  42. unequivocalk says:

I need some bones scoop!!! DESPERATELY!!!!!

  43. juli says:

The Castle position is obviously a role for Reiko Aylesworth!
