SVU No Longer Looking to Collar Love Hewitt

Looks like Law & Order: SVU just wasn’t feeling the Love.

Last month, word spread that the NBC procedural was looking to add Jennifer Love Hewitt as a semi-replacement for Mariska Hargitay when the series vet scales back her duties in the latter half of the season. But on Friday our sister site Deadline revealed that Hewitt is no longer in the show’s crosshairs.

However, that doesn’t mean SVU isn’t still keeping an eye out for another newbie. The search for someone to fill the Christopher Meloni void is in full effect, and there are even rumblings that producers are considering the addition of a second female detective to pair up with Hargitay’s Benson early on in Season 13.

Ice-T Staying Put on Law & Order: SVU for Two More Years

Now that Hewitt is out, are there any actresses you would like to see as SVU‘s new cop?

  • Call me crazy but I would like to see Sophia Bush as the new partner/protege but would also be happy with Lisa Edelstein, Melina Kanakaredes, or Jennifer Beals. I also think Aaron Stanford, Taylor Kitsch, or Barry Watson would be good to replace Meloni/Stabler. *hides from hate comments* SB won’t happen though because she is still doing One Tree Hill. Oh well I can wish.

  • What about Annie Wersching, the actress who played Renee Walker on 24? She would try to fill the void for Mariska.

    • As much as I liked Annie Wersching, it looks like they are searching for someone with a name factor. Annie is severely underrated in that department. Well at least she looks interested in the role.

Anyway, I don’t think it will be too difficult to find an actress for a (young) detective. There are plenty of good actresses that can fill the role.

  • Damien Lewis would be a great choice to replace Meloni.

  • Annie Wersching and Kelli Giddish would be good candidates. They both have played police officers. Annie played an FBI agent and Annie played a US Marshall. They are both more than qualified.
Plus, Annie got wind of people recommending her on this website and tweeted that she would be interested.

  • I think they should reconsider Jennifer Love Hewitt. I might be the only person in the world to think she’s a good actress, but I like the idea of her doing something different-stretching her acting wings quite a bit.
This is just one woman’s opinion

  • Jennifer love hewitt is a great actress. The only problem is that she recently played a victim. She can’t just come from a weak role of a victim to a strong cop. What happened to training at a police academy, etc.
Now, kelli giddish already guest stared but so did Diane neal before the part of Casey novak
Annie wersching is perfect. She has my vote.

  • I like Corey Stoll from the cancelled “Law and Order” L-A. It could be almost comical watching his character transition from LA to NYC. Richard Belzer’s brilliant Munch could show him the ropes. Belzer is one of the most valuable assets on the show and so wasted, even more so than Ice T who is so realistically cool.

  • Katee Sackhoff, no contest. Young, attractive and based on her role in BSG, she can hold her own with the boys and kick some serious a@@!

    • Yeah, but Annie wersching trumps her in both departments

  • I am so dissapointed that JEnnifer Love Hewitt isn’t joing SVU!!! I was looking forward to that!! Personally if they’re looking for a replacemnt for Meloni, then maybe they should get Chris Noth as Mike Logan as long as no one starts getting Mr Big/Olivia fantasys, yuck! WIlliam Petersen played a good cop numerous times. Maybe Goren could get a trnsfer to the 16th’s SVU after CI’s last episode. But the stupid network placed the idea in my head, i was soooo ready for Jennifer Love Hewitt. Now i just want to punch every producer except WArren Leight!

  • Chris and mariska are the best people for the show. If they replace either of them I refuse to watch it. They have such good chemistry and u can’t split them apart. If they do leave the show will suck and I don’t want to watch it. Fin and Munch are great but u have to have all 4 not just 2. That’s all I have to say.

  • Jennifer Beals did such a great job on Chicago Code, she should be in SVU. Margitay and Beals together would make the show incredible. They’re both believable in strong female roles and are of the same acting pedigree. It would be like Cagney & Lacey 30 years down the road.

  • Jennifer Beals will be great! Her character of Teresa Colvin in The Chicago Code showed that she can totally carry the role of a cop. She will have amazing chemistry with anyone she’s paired up with on the show. Hargitay and Beals acting oppposite each other will be phenomenal!
