Watch Meredith Vieira's Tearful Today Farewell

Meredith Vieira said so long to NBC’s Today show Wednesday morning in true sobby, soggy fashion.

Matt Lauer, Ann Curry, Al Roker and many more were on-hand to bid farewell to their morning show co-host, who, it was established, impacted more than just the viewers during her five years with the daytime staple.

“You have changed my life,” Roker expressed. “You have changed all of these people’s lives. And we will always, always hold a spot in our hearts… I love you.”

An emotional Lauer added through his self-proclaimed blubbering, “I adore you… I have marveled over the fact that with someone who’s got talent as large as yours, how small your ego is.”

Before signing off for the final time, a tearful Vieira joked that she didn’t really want to leave, but unfortunately NBC had already “changed the lock on my dressing room,” so an exit was the only solution.

Meredith must have been very liked because everybody, especially those behind the camera, went to all that trouble to give her a nice good bye. Even the reporters from other cities who were earlier reporting on stories made it a point to say something nice to her before saying good bye. I can’t remember how Katie Couric’s last day was then, but I don’t think everybody in the show went out of their way like they did today for Meredith. :)

I quit watching Today while Katie was on – but went back when Meredith became co-host. She’s a class act and it just won’t be the same without her. Best wishes, Meredith and thanks for 5 great years! You will definitely be missed!

Actually, the whole show was a commentary on how well liked Meredith truly is. I thought it was very well done and heartfelt–when someone is truly appreciated and will be missed–people will get emotional. Meredith has always had an excellent reputation for being a true professional. I know I’ll miss her.

I must be odd – I have never liked Meredith’s style. I absolutely hated her on The View and I can honestly say that she is the reason I never watched the Today show. (Admittedly, I don’t watch any mahor network morning shows these days, if I watch anything, it’s Morning Joe)

Sounds like she was a great co-worker, but she was a huge turn off for me.

I only started watching Today within the last two years (I was a SportsCenter girl), and I must say, Meredith will be missed. Her easy going nature, quick wit and the chemistry she had with her fellow anchors was beyond. I love how easily she and Matt joked and she just brought a lightness to the show. I love Anne Curry, but I think Meredith’s chair is going to be hard to fill.
