Supernatural Spoiler: Season 7 Theme Revealed

After taking a dark and twisty turn during its noir-esque sixth season, Supernatural will tip its 10-gallon hat to another film genre in Season 7.

“We had everyone on the writing staff watch Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid,” executive producer Sera Gamble tells TVLine. “[Executive producer] Bob [Singer], [series creator] Eric [Kripke] and I were really hungry to capture some of that cowboy, outlaw spirit for Sam and Dean [next season].”

But who are the Winchesters running from? A recent press release from The CW reveals that Sam and Dean “will find themselves…up against a new foe unlike anything they’ve ever fought.” After what happened to Castiel in the May 20 season finale, we had to ask Gamble if the newly minted God is the Winchesters’ new foe. (Of course, the decision to take his portrayer, Misha Collins, off contract suggests Gamble may have other plans.)

“I would consider Cas, in the last few minutes of the finale, to have been transformed,” is all Gamble would say. The boss lady was more reassuring about Cas’ chances for redemption. “We try to be realistic about the fact that people on this show do cross lines that can’t be uncrossed,” she says. “But we examine those things in terms of Sam and Dean. They have a tremendous capacity to move forward. We always look for the chance to have redemption.”

  3. phil says:

I don’t get all the Dean show or the Sam show last time I checked this show was about 2 brothers. I have been watching Supernatural from the beginning and it truly was all about Dean so the give Sam a season so what ? Get over it. I am a Sam lover and I loved souless sam I think it gave the audience a chance to see Jared to something different for a change. I love Cas as well about the show is about the guys not about him. I do love Bobby and hopefully he will continue to be a part of the show. I love Supernatural and nothing the writers can do will stop me from watching plus it doesn’t hurt that Jenson and Jared are HOT!!!!

I will watch the seventh season of course but it’s become more of a resigned sort of loyalty thing. For me it’s always been a Sam n Dean show, that’s why I started and that’s why I keep going. But sadly it’s too Sam centric now, and I’m not really into one man shows. Sera Gamble seems to have forgotten that a good story requires strong supporting characters. Supernatural always develops really cool characters and then either casts them aside or neglects them. It’s very disappointing. This season was disappointing on too many levels. The last few episodes with Cas were interesting but they didn’t even bother tying up loose ends anywhere, like they don’t even care to give credible explanations. Don’t have any expectations from the coming season, they made big promises last time too.

  8. Coleen says:

Cas goes, I go. I started watching the show from the beginning of season 4, so Cas has always been a part of the show as far as I saw it. I think he is really important to the show and that they will loose a lot of fans if he goes.

I am a fan of the show period. I am a dean woman naturally but the show as a whole is what I love. Do I agree all the time with what happens to my favorite men no! will I stop watching it because cass is gone? no! I watch this show because it is written about demons, vampires, angles and all the inbetween. I watch this show because week after week I get to see Dean and sam go through hell and back and survive to see another day. As long as my two favorite men are back in black scars and all kicking a$$ and taking names I’m good.

  10. i love the 3 of them(sam,dean,cass)<3
I love all of the seasons.but why now in season7 there was no misha?i'm very not agree with this.because misha already good enoug for played as 'castiel'.it's ok misha would be changed but if sam n dean…i'm feel dont want to watch season7 T_T we loved cass'ass-butt'!

  11. nasha says:

i very loved Dean cause he is a good actor, cool, hot, georgeous.but i’m also loved cass coz he helped to much n i think he is also the part of the story.when ther is cass, the story b’come fun,n i’m enjoyed watching it;) and what happened where there is no MISHA!!:/i think i’m become bored but i still watching it.b’coz my little sister love cass very much.she said that cass is funny, cool, and cute.

    We Will Miss U misha/cass.’Go ass-butt’;pp

  12. Hizo says:

Although Cass is arguabley my favorite character I have to admit this season felt…goofy. First of all the writers have now engaged themselves in a “one up last season” trend which will end poorly. I mean, Sam and Dean have beaten Yellow Eyes, Lucifer, The Mother of All, Raph, Ruby, the Horsemen and they totally stopped the apocalypse(plus the axed some alphas and a small army of beasties). God-Cass is IT. After him there is no concievable enemy more powerful, so will the greatest hunters ever return to offing wendigos if this seasons births another season?

On top of that the story -does- seem rushed. I mean Azazil took FOREVER to kill it, plus the things he did really made him a center piece to the plot for 5-6 seasons. Although it pains me a great deal to say, I think the series should have ended with Lucifer’s defeat, Dean’s retirement and that little Sam teaser at the end of the season. After that episodes should have ended. Maybe a movie could have been made to answer the last remaining questions a wrap up the story.

  13. Joshua says:

Bottom line is Supernatural is in my opinion the best tv series ever. So what there is holes and crap that dont make sense. This show is about family abd the things u do for them. I love every character to a tee even the guest stars. I think Sera did a wonderful job pickingup in a whole new direction where Eric left off. And this season 7 teaser has got me rattled. In Cass We Fear. I want to see people post things like what do we think is going to happen next. Especially 2 things, one being the apperance of Death, which in season 5 he said he would one day reap God too and his little comments about the souls in season 6. This open a whole new world of things for all characters in Supernatural. Second is the scene in the teaser where it looks like Castiels face is burning up kinda like Lucifers first meat suit was almost too weak to contain its power. Maybe the same goes for Cass, maybe after he realizes he is about to blow and take the world and what else with it tries to get Dean and Sam to help him. What about the scene where Sam is being hung by a chain. So many questions just makes me so excited about Sept. 23rd. My wife 2 sons and I love this show and have watched it from day one. Let me tell u 6 years of my sons watching Dean and Sam and the unbreakable bond has really set a great relationship with my 2 sons. Funny how wholesome this show really is when you peel it down to its core. So keep up the good work no matter what and body says I will continue to watch this show till the end and watch every episode over and over as I always have since the pilot. Crappy fanboys wont break my spirit.

  14. Silver says:

We Need Castiel! Bring him back already!

  15. jez says:

people who say cas and the angels should never be part of the show are morons . the end.

  16. STFU says:

Oh shut the f@ck up and quit your whining. The show is about the brothers not angels and demons. And get serious already Misha Collins portrayed a serial killer from Canada a few years ago and that was based on a true story! Also FYI do some reading they said transformed, er! He gets redemption cause he’s not bad! Idiot!

  17. antonio says:

ok well if theres a eve then is there a adam ? and if so will they ever show him? becouse eve was the mother of monster so what is adam?
