Royal Pains Scoop: Ed Asner Cast as Gramps

Last season, Royal Pains introduced Hank and Evan’s dad Eddie, played by Henry Winkler. Now the USA Network hit’s upcoming third season will be going back another generation: Veteran actor Ed Asner tapped for a two-episode arc as Ted Roth, Hank and Evan’s grandfather and Eddie’s dad.

Asner, who recently starred on CMT’s first sitcom Working Class, will next be seen in the HBO movie Too Big to Fail.

Pains‘ third season kicks off June 29 (9/8c).

  • Ted Roth? If he’s Eddie’s biological father, wouldn’t he be Ted Lawson?

    • Exactly what I thought! I don’t know if this is misinformation, misdirection, or a mistake.

    • or maybe Eddie just changed his last name, or has his mother’s name.

  • Maybe the “R” in Eddie’s name stands for “Roth” and he added the “Lawson” somewhere down the line?

  • Maybe Ted is Hank and Evan’s mom’s dad. Then the different last name would make sense.
