Glee Scoop: Rachel and [Spoiler] Meet Patti Lupone!

Rachel and Kurt’s Big Apple adventure continues…

Glee‘s Broadway-obsessed pals — who earlier this week were spotted shopping at Tiffany’s and infiltrating the Gershwin Theatre, home to Broadway’s Wicked — are now hobnobbing with a Great White Way legend. Well, at least one of them is.

As first reported by our sister site, Patti Lupone is currently shooting scenes with Lea Michele and another male costar who may or may not be Chris Colfer in midtown Manhattan for the show’s Nationals-themed season finale. In the sequence, Rachel and (maybe) Kurt run into the Tony winner at iconic eatery Sardi’s.

“On set right now working with one of my all time idols,” Michele tweeted. “Another day where glee makes one of my dreams come true.”

Lupone was last seen on Broadway in Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown.

  1. Holli says:

Um, Women on the Verge closed in January. Patti Lupone is currently NOT on Broadway (although she should be!)

  2. Cathy says:

Women of the Verge of Nervous Breakdown closed back in January!! Patti was great in it.

  3. Steph says:

Very excited about this news! I do have to point out, though, that Women on the Verge closed months ago!

    • Rae says:

uh guys, hate to point out the obvious- but I think (just guessing) the mention of Lupone’s last show was just to mention her last work not to say that she is currently in it or that it will be on glee.

So, kind of confused why the need to point out the closing as if it were wrong information posted.

  4. maya says:

That’s confusing when the characters meet real life celebrities who play their own role. In the first season they sang defying gravity so clearly Wicked is part of their fiction, and with that the two leads of this show should be too. Yet they brought Kristin Chenoweth as a drunk crazy girl and Idina Menzel as Rachel’s mom. To me it doesn’t really makes sense that Rachel didn’t scream “It’s Idina Menzel!” and Kurt answered “It’s Kristin Chenoweth!”

    • John says:

The show has also namechecked John Stamos, then later cast him in a role.

This happens all the time on TV, making pop culture references that can somehow correlate with actors on the show. Just pretend that April Rhodes and Kristin Chenoweth are two separate people who both exist in that reality. It’s easier.

    • ummm says:

Are you also confused when the scenes flash between the library / auditorium /choir room during songs? Or when a Glee club that has very little funding has new matching outfits for every practice number they do? I think we are supposed to allow for a little suspension of disbelief.

      • JB says:

So totally agree with you @ummm! For a club with very little funding they sure put on major productions at that school and just about everytime.

    • thunderclap says:

Actually its easier to assumed there are different actors on broadway. In some fanfic debrorah gibson does glenda and the current person who plays the wicked witch orginated the role.

    • Rae says:

and they look at Quinn and go, “hey you were in Burlesque” and at Mike Chang and notice he was in both LXD and Step up movies or even look at the school staff: Mr Schue or Sue….
      : D

    • Sam says:

They also mentioned Gwyneth Paltrow. And I’m pretty sure Patti Lupone is playing herself, not some other character. And hopefully they will play up her reputation as a diva.

  5. Joe says:

wow lost some respect fo this site knowing you are sister sites with that rag Hollywoodlife.

Yeah for Rachel and Kurt. I love this is episode is Rachel’s bucket list of something.

  6. Nicole says:

Except she was spotted with *Cory*. The filming at Sardi’s is Lea/Cory/Patty.

    • murley says:

my theory is that finn shows rachel he will help her achieve her dreams, not hold her back. it seems that this season rachel has been faced with the idea of fame or love and i think that she needs to come to a place where she finds she can have both before she and finn reunite.

  7. Tucker says:

How did I know it was going to be Patti Lupone before I clicked on the link on Twitter?

  8. Karian says:

There were pics and twitter reports of Cory with Lea at Sardis. Chris is yet to be seen.

  9. Jurybox says:

I remember seeing Patti Lupone when she was starring in Evita in its initial Broadway run. She was unforgettable then and I can’t wait to see her in Glee!

  10. SherwinJTB says:

Michele is continuously following her dream. Congratulations to her. I’m not really familiar with Patti Lupone, but any entertainer to have on board must be a good thing.
