Ratings: Did DWTS Give Better With You a Tiny Lift Out of Bubble's Way?

ABC bubble comedy Better With You made the most of its special Monday aprés-Dancing With the Stars showcase, holding onto 11.7 million of the reality hit’s audience. That’s a 37 percent larger crowd than Cougar Town netted a week ago in the same primo perch, while BWU‘s demo rating (2.6) was 13 percent higher.

Now we wait and see how many of those millions sample the fence-riding freshman comedy anew come Wednesday at 8:30 pm.

Elsewhere this Monday:

8/7c | DWTS drew 21.8 million total viewers and a 4.5 demo rating, improving by double digits on last week’s season low. The CW’s 90210 (1.8 mil/0.9) enjoyed its most watched outing since December 6.

9/8c | The Event placed third (behind ABC and CBS comedy repeats) with 4.43 million viewers and a 1.3 rating, up 18 percent week-to-week. Gossip Girl held steady at 1.53 mil/0.8.

10/9c | Law & Order: LA (5.76 mil/1.3) grew its numbers by 18 percent yet still placed third on all counts behind repeats of Castle and Hawaii Five-0.

I am liking Law & Order LA. It is a little different. Hopefully they keep it on for next year.

  2. billk says:

in the 8:30 half hour, Mad Love was not a re-run. What was up on that rating?

  3. @spunkybean says:

Well, of course it did at least a little better than Cougar Town with the DWTS audience….Derek Hough was heavily promoted as a guest star!

  4. Tego Livi says:

Better With You is kind of like a brown dwarf star–it’s trying to ignite. There are some good laughs, a very good cast, flashes of quality, but it’s not a hit yet. There are shows like it every year, and sometimes they catch fire, sometimes not; sometimes, they aren’t given a good chance to take that last step. The funniest part of the show is the parents.

  5. mj says:

I hope it does get a boost. It’s not a bad show – and had definitely improved since the beginning. What I love about it is when you see the situation and how it’s skews depending on whether it’s the new couple, the couple dating 6 years or the old married parents. That’s usually LOL funny

  6. topsyturvy says:

Every actor in BETTER WITH tries way, way to hard.

  7. J. Norman says:

It did indeed make the most of the opportunity given. It’s competition was either repeats or not particularly tough with regard to other first run shows.
It may have helped its chances in what looks to be a 3 way race between Better With You, Mr. Sunshine, and Happy Endings to gain that 4th spot on the Wednesday ABC comedy block.
Was last nights ratings enough (i.e. 2.6 in 18-49 demo, and 11.5 million total viewers?
Perhaps not, but if it hadn’t received this type of showing it is very possible that it would have been curtains for BWY.
It’s best chance, however, would still be if ABC elects to go to
    1) a 3 hour comedy block on Wednesday
    2) ABC opens up a 2nd night of comedy next fall.

  8. Guy says:

No no no. Cougar Town is better than Better but is so much more funny than Sunshine. They can renew Better instead of Sunshine anyday. I would love to see Sunshine gone. Its pathetic. As for Happy Endings at least it is good and is a comedy. Sunshine is just plain lame.

  9. Jeri says:

Better with You is a really good show. It’s like the little show that could. I didn’t expect to like it so much but it has me laughing almost as much as Modern Family.

    They better renew it!
