Ratings: Parenthood's Season Finale Is Grand

NBC’s Parenthood put on quite a show with its Season 2 finale, earning 25 percent gains in both total viewers (hitting 6.3 million) and in the demo (with a 2.5 rating). In fact, that is the family drama’s largest audience since this season’s premiere, and its best demos since Sept. 21.

As such, Ausiello just upgraded the show’s status on the TVLine Renewal Scorecard.

Elsewhere this Tuesday:

8/7c | Though an NCIS repeat topped the hour in total viewers (with 13.3 million), Glee led the Tuesday demos with a 3.8 rating. The Fox hit however was down 11 percent in total audience (slipping to 9.7 mil). One Tree Hill returned to 1.43 million viewers and a 0.7 rating.

9/8c | The Dancing With the Stars results show was the night’s most watched program (with 15.8 million viewers), but hit a season low demo rating (for both fall and spring) of 2.9. Fox’s Raising Hope (5.7 mil/2.2) dipped 4 percent in the demo, while Hellcats had little to cheer about with a mere 1.14 million viewers and a Shedding for the Wedding-esque 0.5 rating. Eek.

10/9c | Buoyed by a double dose of Mad woman Christina Hendricks, Body Of Proof bettered its renewal chances by holding steady at 11.5 million viewers and a 2.3 rating. An NCIS: LA repeat (9 mil/2.0) outdrew Parenthood but placed last in the demos.

This is incredible news for Parenthood. There’s no way NBC cancels it after these numbers.

BTW, the last episode of SVU only pulled a 2.4. So it’s hard to imagine NBC canceling Parenthood.

Now if only The Good Wife would jump to a 2.5 on May 3rd. :)

Happy for PARENTHOOD! Could it be the un-happy soap fans are actively boycotting DWTS as they threatened?

  3. Adrienne says:

Thank goodness! I would be devastated if Parenthood wasn’t renewed. It’s just so consistent. It’s reassuring to know that this show delivers every week. Love this show!

As long as Jeff Zucker isn’t around, the quality shows just might stay on NBC…

  20. Judy says:

Parenthood is my favorite show – the only show I consider a “must see”. The ensemble cast is phenomenal and the story lines are consistently entertaining and real-to-life. Christina, though not my favorite character, reminds me so much of me – especially when it comes to the way she deals with her teen daughter. There have been times when the conversations between them were almost verbatim to our conversations. Each character has been lovingly and carefully developed and I don’t recall ever feeling such a connection with a show and its cast members. I stay up to watch it on Tuesday nights and record it for my husband to watch Wednesday, since he has to go to bed early. Then, I watch it all over again with him so that we can discuss it. I just love the characters are fleshed out – warts and all. Great job, NBC! You’ve got a real keeper! I’m with the previous poster who wishes you would put it in a time-slot where it will not conflict with a top 20 show so that it can get the audience it deserves. Thanks!

IT RELAXS ME WHEN IM STRESSED AND MAKES ME REALLY FEEL LIKE ITS REAL! IT IS FANTASTIC!!! PLEASE CONTINUE !! I KNOW THE SEASON 2 FINALE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE THE LAST OF IT, HOWEVER THAT IS NOT WHAT OUR VIEWERS WANT!! THERE ARE SO MANY PEOPLE THAT REALLY HOPE FOR PARENTHOOD TO STAY ON AIR!! PLEASE MAKE THEIR HOPES COME TRUE!! BRAVERMAN!! WE LOVE YOU!
