Ratings: 90210 Warms Up, LOLA Plunges

Spring break offered a nice climate for The CW’s 90210, which on Monday night returned to an audience of 1.72 million total viewers, up 21 percent from its last fresh episode. The sudser’s 0.8 demo rating also represented a 14 percent gain.

Come 9 pm, Gossip Girl retained 1.5 million of 90210‘s viewers and held the demo rating, enjoying its own increases of 7 and 14 percent, respectively.

NBC, meanwhile, suffered its lowest-rated all-originals Monday night of the season (…as one of its rivals helpfully points out). Though bubble boy Chuck (4.2 mil/1.3) held steady, The Event (3.75 mil/1.1) dipped to new lows, while Law & Order: LA (4.9 mil/1.1) plunged 18 and 27 percent.

LOLA is now off 34 percent and 16 percent from time slot predecessor Harry’s Law‘s finale numbers.

Elsewhere on Monday:

8/7c | Dancing With the Stars delivered 19.6 million total viewers and a 3.9 rating, down a few percentage points on both counts. House held steady at 8.64 mil and a 3.2, while How I Met Your Mother (6.4 mil/2.5) tied its series-low demo.

9/8c | Cougar Town‘s special Monday comeback drew 8.5 mil and a 2.3 rating — up 29 percent in total audience from its last outing (on February 2), but curiously down 15 percent in the demo. Moving back to its 9:30 perch, Mike & Molly (9.7 mil/2/5) grabbed 23 percent more viewers than last week’s 9:00 try-out. The Chicago Code copped a small uptick in audience (to 6.43 mil) and repeated its 1.8 rating.

10/9c | With Castle taking a knee, Hawaii Five-0 dominated the hour with 10.9 million viewers and a 2.6 rating, registering gains of 20 and 8 percent. ABC’s 20/20 special on the royal wedding was attended by 7.7 million viewers.

What were you watching on Monday? And remember: Even more new Cougar Town arrives on Wednesday at 9:30 pm!

Here is what I noticed about LOLA last night: they brought Connie to LA, no real story on why, and she was just a (very pretty) extra in the episode. WTH? She’s supposed to be the link to the mothership. Use her.

    • Jay says:

She actually came back a couple of episodes ago – you must have missed the double-ep last week.

    • musica1 says:

LOLA is just a bad show. I’ve watched three episodes now, and the only really likable person was the cop who got killed off. I don’t like the ex-DA who’s now a cop and can’t really stand Terence Howard. It’s by far the worst of the LO franchise.

Yay Chuck!! Love chuck better be renewed wished more ppl watched it although they shouldn’t just count how many ppl watch it that night cuz i know quite a few ppl that watch it diff nights or watch it online or even dvr it but they don’t count ne of that. I wish they would :( Renew chuck!!

    • AJ says:

Kayla – I’d probably get used to the fact that it is highly likely that Chuck will not be back. You are right in that many people watch it online or dvr it – but that’s part of a much bigger TV issue. NBC needs those eyeballs Monday at 8PM watching the show live AND watching the advertisements. Watching online and on Tivo helps, but will not save the show. I hope that the season finale is one that satisfies fans because I can’t see NBC (especially with the new Comcast regime) renewing it…

  3. Ann says:

Chuck was great last night. :) NBC should renew it, and move it to Friday.

  4. Amy says:

HIMYM was awesome last night! Wish more people were watching. John Lithgow is amazing as Barney’s dad. And the origin story of Ted’s red boots? Awesome! I would like to know what other people thought about the clues – both leading and misleading – to the idenity of the couple getting married. I think it is more obvious than ever that Barney is the groom.

  5. Mikaylah says:

I did NOT like the little smile on Robin’s face at the end of the episode. I would really like the groom and bride to be Barney and Robin, but this new guy worries me.

Stargate Universe was on last night, and it was amazing. It is getting so good. Too bad it was canceled. :(

  6. Matt says:

Man it’s a sad state of affairs when a show pulls 1.72M viewers and a *.8* in the ‘demo’ and that actually represents a GAIN!! How the hell does the CW afford to even make shows if those are the numbers they pull in? That’s crazy.

  7. davey says:

I don’t watch Dancing with the Stars so I’m unhappy about the low ratings for Chuck and Law and Order. Why don’t they move Chuck already?

  8. chris says:

The original LOLA was far better than this new crapfest. Molina lumbers around on screen and looks nothing like a cop. He upstages Corey Stoll who was fun to watch in the original LOLA and their teaming has no chemistry. The whole ADA turned cop is such a bad storyline and unbelievable it is distracting. Now all his interactions with police and DA’s is just strange. Killing off Winters killed the show.

  9. Buffy Freak says:

Law & Order: Los Angeles is the New Coke of TV franchises.

  10. Amber says:

Chuck needs to be moved to another night, there’s just way too much to compete with on Monday nights, and I confess it’s the least priority on my DVR (House and HIMYM, and even DWTS being higher), so I always end up just watching it online. I think it would do better on another night of the week.

  11. Mdz says:

I really don’t understand NBC..if Chuck is the best show they have, the one that gets better ratings, why wont the renew it???
Please gie Chuck a season 5 NBC!!!!

    • Esaul says:

Chuck isn’t even close to their best show.

      • ata says:

Than what do u think is NBC best show ???

        • Buffy Freak says:

Well obviously it’s subjective but IMO 30 Rock, Parks and Recreation, Parenthood and Community are all better than Chuck. Some episodes of The Office too. But sadly the quality of the show isn’t what most matters…if it were, CBS would have canceled Two and a Half Men midway through the first season.

  12. maggie says:

NBC, please put LOLA out of its misery. Bring back the original L&O, at least with some TV movies.
