Ratings: Modern Family's Return Boosts Two ABC Bubble Shows

Modern Family‘s return with fresh fare was welcomed by yes, me, but not inconsequentially some 10.8 million other people. That in turn gave a (too little, too late?) lift to two of ABC’s Wednesday bubble shows.

Bolstered by a non-rerun lead-in, Mr. Sunshine surged 29 percent in total viewers (to 5.9 million) and 22 percent in the demo, scoring a 2.2.

Then, come 10pm, Off The Map (4.5 mil/1.5) enjoyed single-digit gains, though the jungle sudser still suffers from a very anemic demo rating. Maybe coconut water can help with that?

Finale Dates Scheduled for Mr. Sunshine, Off the Map and More ABC Shows

Elsewhere on Wednesday:

* American Idol‘s Motown night drew 23.47 million viewers and a 7.7 demo rating, up a bit week-to-week.

* Survivor held steady in total viewers (10.75 mil) but dipped to a 3.0 rating, which by some accounts is an all-time low.

* Over on The CW, Top Model (2.15 mil/1.0) was up 8 and 11 percent, while Shedding for the Wedding was flat at 967,000 viewers and a 0.4 (!!!) rating.

* In the 10 o’clock hour, Law & Order: SVU slugged it out with Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior for bragging rights in total viewers (8.7 mil vs. 8.9 mil), while the NBC procedural bested the CBS spin-off in the demo, 2.6 to 2.3.
