Ratings: Big Finish for Criminal Minds' Prentiss

Paget Brewster’s Criminal Minds going-away party was well-attended, as the CBS crime drama this Wednesday delivered 13.7 million total viewers and a 3.6 demo rating, matching its most recent outing.

The mothership’s solid performance paved the way for CM: Suspect Behavior to register double-digit gains, rising to 10.35 million viewers and a 2.6 rating.

Elsewhere this Wednesday:

* American Idol‘s two-hour sing-off averaged 22.2 million viewers and a 7.4 rating, dipping 7 percent week-to-week.

* In the 8 o’clock hour, Survivor (10.6 mil/3.2) showed little movement, while Top Model sank to barely 2 million viewers and a series-low 0.9 rating. This, folks is why Tyra’s show is moving back an hour, to 9 pm, starting in mid-April.

* The forecast for Mr. Sunshine (joke never gets old) this week was “partly successful,” in that it didn’t lose any more viewers, but held steady at 4.6 mil and a 1.8 rating. The CW’s Shedding for the Wedding, meanwhile, shed (again, timeless!) more of the 18-49 crowd, offering up a gasp-worthy 0.4 rating.

* Opposite Criminal Minds 2 and an SVU repeat, ABC bubble show Off the Map was on par with last week, drawing 4.23 million viewers and a third place-worthy 1.4 demo rating.

Off the Map was on? I had basketball on my tv. Ugh.

  2. Brenda says:

What was I watching? Justified of course! Any love here for Marshall Givens?

  3. jay says:

I watched “Criminal Minds”, but it will probably be my last time doing so. Without J.J. and Prentiss, the show is a giant sausage fest. The new girl is such a bad fit that I still don’t know her name or the name of her character. The show just isn’t the same without J.J. and without Prentiss, it will undoubtedly, “jump the shark”. I’ll go back to watching “Modern Family” and I have always watched “Law and Order: SVU, at 10 p.m. At 8 p.m., I usually watch something on the satellite stations, because I have no interest in reality shows.

    • Alicia says:

Paget/Prentiss’ “going away party” was definitely my last episode. The past couple seasons have been suffering in quality and moving away from psychology and profiling towards just plain violence. I could overlook that because the team was so great, but now that JJ and Prentiss are gone, it’s just not worth it.

  4. Bethany says:

Criminal Minds… It was a great episode, but my heart is entirely crushed. First JJ and now Prentiss? Really? I like the new agent well enough, but losing 2 other leads (and female too) in 1 year? After all the trauma the team had been through in the past year/couple of seasons, I couldn’t help but wonder just how much more they can take, now also losing Prentiss.

And then I wonder, how much more can I take?

I’ll probably still watch, or at least finish out the season. But it’ll never be the same, and I’ll have a difficult seeing CBS and this show the same way ever again.

I missed the first 5 mins of the last Criminal MInds, can you tell me how they had JJ come back on, and why, we really want her back, and Prentiss too. Is there any talk of JJ back permanent?

  5. dq18 says:

I watched CM, as always. I’m hoping it doesn’t go downhill from here. I haven’t found anything likeable about the new character. I’m hoping they’ll flesh her out a bit and give me a reason to like her. (As they did with Prentiss over the years, keep in mind she isn’t an original.) I was sad when Mandy Patinkin left, I was sad when Lola Glaudini left, and I’m sad now that Padgett & A.J. are gone. The good news is, when Lola and Mandy left the show didn’t lose any of it’s original charm…I’m not so sure they can do that again.

  6. Suncatcher says:

CBS – I just couldn’t watch the end of Emily last night, though tempted as it was directed by the great Matthew Gray Gubler. It’s like watching a (formerly) great show self-destruct. Switching to reruns in my library. Click.

  7. Vi says:

Well,I am hoping that since the door was left open, Emily will return. I have watched this show since the beginning and the cast we had last year and for the few years before, was the best. I miss JJ and am not happy she will not be returning, but I am thinking positive that Emily will be back next season. Do not like SB at all, so not watching that one.

  8. Gina says:

I watched, I will miss Emily and JJ. I will never watch that spin-off.

Does anyone know if they got the bad guy last night??? It looked like he ran off when he heard the shots and only Emily was there when the team made it to the room.

    • dq18 says:

No, Ian escaped. That is why they faked Emily’s death. After all, Lauren Reynolds died in a car accident…Of course, this time she should be a bit safer, as Ian is the one that actually impaled her thus assuming there was no way she could survive that. The better question now, is Emily looking for Ian to finish the job or is she looking for his son to warn him?

      • Renee says:

And these are questions that will probably never be answered since Paget has moved on.

        • dq18 says:

She’s got other work, but the door was left open for her to come back. The other work she has is a pilot, which in the television industry isn’t really secure. It could be the next hit, it might never see the light of day. We’ll just have to hope that by the numbers it pulled MAYBE fans will get closure. It would be nice. Either way, I wish Brewster well in whatever she does. She’s a great talent!

  9. Amber says:

What was I watching? Well, Justified, of course! The best show on tv with tv’s sexiest star (with the possible, maybe exception of Joel McHale). Where’s that in your ratings round-up?

    • Jak says:

What, is FX paying you or something? Seriously, quit carpet bombing the post with your Justified comments. We get it.

  10. Linderella49 says:

The final episode was a classy sendoff for Prentiss – I just hope she and/or JJ comes back! MGG did such an outstanding job directing! I doubt seriously it’ll last more than one more season with at least one of them doesn’t come back. And the train wreck that is Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior is just not worth even recording! I wonder if CBS is happy with that little decision….

  11. Josh says:

What song was that in the beginning of the show? It was alternative song but I am dying to find out what artist it was. If anyone knows and can answer the you rock thanks.

  12. dvh7711 says:

I wonder if the powers that be realize they just lost most of their female viewing audience by getting rid of JJ and Emily? I’m sure the new female actor is a nice person in real life but she ads no personality to the great team of actors they had in place. It’s a shame! I used to really love this show but it just won’t be the same without JJ and Emily. They will be missed.

  13. HeartSleeve says:

Prentiss won’t be back because Brewster already has a new comedy gig lined up.
JJ only came back to send Prentiss into the myst at the end, as a HQ FBI operative. The question remains, was she spilling the beans to Hotch in that whisper at the end, or does the entire team think she is dead?

  14. Jen says:

My last episode. Seaver annoys me, and I don’t want to watch without any female characters. Now that the ensemble is reduced, I imagine they might overdue it on the Reid story lines. I’ll be watching Garcia in the spin-off however.
