Fall TV Preview

Exclusive: Boardwalk Casts 'Bugsy' Siegel

Boardwalk Empire has decided it is time to meet the lad who will one day become the notorious gangster known as “Bugsy” Siegel.

Filling that recurring role when the acclaimed HBO series launches its second season will be Michael Zegen, TVLine has learned exclusively. Zegen will be familiar to Rescue Me fans for playing Tommy’s godson, Damien Keefe (ergo the firefighter garb in the picture above).

Scoop on Boardwalk Empire Season 2, True Blood and More!

Of course, Zegen’s character — who is described as “a tough, smart urban kid… as aspiring Jewish gangster” — will go by the name of “Benny,” seeing as “Bugsy” didn’t become a commonly (and not affectionately) used nickname for crime king Benjamin Siegel until the late 1930s.

SAG Awards Honor Boardwalk Empire

Boardwalk fans, are you curious to see the series touch on the origins of a character previously played by the likes of Warren Beatty, Armand Assante and, yes, Richard Grieco?

  • Wow, the guys from Rescue Me are quickly finding new jobs. Sunjata’s already on Grey’s Anatomy, Adam Ferrara’s hosting Top Gear USA, Steven Pasquale got the lead in a new USA pilot and so did Callie Thorne (Necessary Roughness, is it?) and now Zegen as well. Nice.

  • After perusing Mr. Zegen’s IMDB page, I remember him from that movie Adventureland. Really underrated movie, lots of good actors and this guy was really funny in a fairly small part. And of course, Rescue Me. SUPER-psyched now to see season 2 of this amazing show, now they add “Bugsy” Siegel!!!

  • Loved Damian on Rescue Me. I was very upset when he was so badly injured last season. Great choice for “Bugsy”!! Looking forward to seeing him do this gangster gig on Boardwalk Empire.
