Two and a Half Men Shuts Down Production For the Season, Citing Charlie Sheen's 'Conduct'

In the wake of recent comments made by series star Charlie Sheen — capped by a Thursday-morning tirade during a radio call-in — CBS and Warner Bros. TV have decided to shut down production on Two and a Half Men‘s eighth season.

“Based on the totality of Charlie Sheen’s statements, conduct and condition, CBS and Warner Bros. Television have decided to discontinue production of Two and a Half Men for the remainder of the season,” the network and studio said in a statement.

Men was to resume production this coming Monday, taping only four out of this season’s eight remaining episodes.

Does Charlie Sheen Want CBS To Cancel Its ‘Frickin’ Juggernaut,’ Two and a Half Men?

UPDATE: Sheen reacted to the shut-down via an open letter posted to TMZ, saying in part, “I gracefully ignored [series creator Chuck Lorre’s] folly for 177 shows…. I fire back once and this contaminated little maggot can’t handle my power…. I urge all my beautiful and loyal fans who embraced this show … to walk with me side-by-side as we march up the steps of justice to right this unconscionable wrong.”

Until now, Sheen had largely made light of the situation he put Two and a Half Men‘s producers, cast and crew in by prompting a temporary halt in production as he pursued at-home rehab. But during a Thursday-morning call-in to The Alex Jones Show, he put to the test his bosses’ threat to pull the plug on TV’s most-watched sitcom if he crossed any lines.

For one, Sheen called Lorre a “clown” and “charlatan,” as well as directed a somewhat anti-Semitic nickname his way. He also boasted of embarrassing Lorre “in front of his children and the world by healing at a pace that this unevolved mind cannot process.”

Of his time on Men, Sheen said, “I’ve spent close to the last decade… effortlessly and magically converting [Lorre’s] tin can into pure gold.”

Addressing the prospect that the series might recast his role, Sheen shrugged, “Whatever. Do what you’ve got to do. I’ll go make movies with superstars and not work with idiots.”

Charlie Sheen Rants: ‘I Went Back To Work, and Nobody’s There!’

But the straw that broke CBS and WBTV’s collective back may have come with comments Sheen made to TMZ when the entertainment news site asked him to follow up on his radio interview. “I violently hate Chaim Levine [aka Chuck Lorre]. He’s a stupid, stupid little man and a p—y punk that I’d never want to be like,” Sheen said. “You can tell him one thing: I own him.”

      Coming this fall to CBS:

      One and a Half Men

      • Alice says:

        Two Men.

      • John Berggren says:

I’d be willing to bet that the chance of Two and 1/2 Men returning with Charlie Sheen next year is less than 1%. I’m sort of surprised they aren’t using the final 4 episodes to explore whether the show will work with Berta, Alan, and Jake running the household. They could still call it two and 1/2 men – Berta is 1/2 man enough to kick anyone’s @$$.

      • Bob Swanson says:

I personally don’t care about all that Charlies Sheen has saidn and done off the set. From the conversations that I’ve had with friends at work and around the neighborhood it’s pretty mucha given that if hi’s not back on the show , nobody that I know of will be watching and that also includes to veterans groups and a couple of unions. At one meetings during coffe time , it was suggested that the Network should just cut their losseess and end the series on a relative high-note and not try for any replacement bull!!

    • Kathy says:

I would hate to see the entire cast and crew lose their jobs over a middle aged, rum soaked, male coke whore, burn out that obviously has delusions of his own grandure. They deserve better much much better. Hey maybe they should call in Charle’s real life brother to replace him.

    • Michael says:

The studio and especially Mr. Levine have covered Charlie’s tail for the past 5 years. To see Charlie turn on them like this is amazing. His “lawsuit” will go away the second the studio threatens to release the dirt they’ve been hiding on this maniac from the past 5 years.

I hope he’s been saving his money. At the rate he burns cash [Drugs, Women, Gambling, Bad Financial Investments] he’ll be on the street by the time he’s 50. Those private jets run $30k round trip for example and high end call girls/hookers/porn stars run $10k a day, minimum. I’ll bet his trip out of the country right now is costing him upwards of $100k a day, when you figure in the hotel suite, the girls, the blow and the booze.

For a guy that made more money this year [even with a shortened season] than he did the entire decade of the 90’s, it’s kind of hard to watch him throw it all away. Actually, it couldn’t happen to a nicer guy, who deserves it more.

  1. Yasin says:

Wow. They really have a big ego…

    • Cheery says:

RIGHT? Who are they to get between a man and his money…and hookers and blow?

      • MCO says:

The funny thing is that. Get a guy..the one who work for your store accross the street. We will call him Jon Doe. He insults his employer, He got fire. John totally deserved it !
Get a star, I don’t Know we will call him, Charlie Sheen. He insults his employers. He got EVERYONE fired ! (or next to). The employers are total bithches !

That’s how the world is, and that , my friend, is sad

        • Thom says:

Huh? Are you writing in Martian?

        • alex says:

chuck lorre has several other shows on at the moment (mike and molly, big bang, etc) that I am sure everyone who lost jobs (except the actors) could find more work easily.

          • patilac says:

Like those shows are gonna last ! LOL have you seen them ? ? ? ? YIKES

          • Yasin says:

Still it sucks because I know the technicians on 2 1/2 Men get paid a lot more then the crew on BBT and Mike and Molly (especially since M&M are only in there first season)

          • Bob says:

Hate to inform you, but CBS gave Big Bang a 3-year renewal back in January. So I don’t think it’s going anywhere. Not sure about M&M since it’s the first year, but they’ll probably be back for another season. Lorre has also been part of shows like Roseanne, Grace Under Fire, Cybill, Dharma & Greg, along with the current shows. He’s also used to handling stars with attitudes (see Cybill). And his real name IS Charles Levine, although not sure why Sheen threw in the ‘Chaim’ reference.

          • angela says:

            This is true.

I had to LOL at Sheen’s statement that he “owns” Chuck Lorre. Who’s the guy who is still employed Charlie? Who’s the guy that the network and studio chose over you charlie? Who’s the guy who just had the big bang theory renewed for THREE years? Who’s got another hit with Mike and Molly. ALL without Charlie Sheen. And who is hiding out of the country communicating through TMZ? Charlie, you’re p’wnd is more like it.

  2. Colleen says:

    Freaking finally!

  3. Michelle says:

Good I’m glad. I don’t watch the show anyway but more importantly Sheen’s antics shouldn’t continued to be supported. Too bad the rest of the cast, crew have to suffer but that’s Hollywood!

    • Yasin says:

Exactly that’s why I think before they always let Sheen continue his work because he was never a nuisance during filming of the show, but now his antics have stepped out of bounds and they have decided to cancel the show. I wouldn’t be surprised if they cancel the series.
      Poor Jon Cryer.

  4. Alex says:

I seriously hope people don’t act surprise.

  5. Bre says:

    Bluff called.

  6. AJ says:

Thank goodness! It was about time.

  7. e says:

    SWEET!!! It’s about time.

  8. s says:

let’s just hope it’s not only for the rest of the season! I HOPE IT TO BE FOR FOREVER!

    • Me, too says:

I have been so aghast and disgusted by the producers and people at CBS for condoning his out of control depraved behavior. I am glad to see that good ole karma came a calling on Sheen and in some way Lorre – he created the monster on and off screen that is Sheen. Lorre is like Dr. Frankenstein who created a monster that is now out to get him – as it should b/c Sheen has played havoc on our culture thanks to the money Lorre made for him and it’s time to show people that there are consequences to your bad behavior instead of a 2 million dollar a week reward for it. Too bad the rest of the cast and crew have to suffer the consequence as well.

  9. Bee says:

it’s time. i don’t care for or hate or love or watch the show or anything, but seeing an article on how charlie sheen screw up every few weeks says enough to me. and then this morning’s article just made it 10x worse. feel bad for the cast and crew that this dude is messing things up for.

  10. Caitlin says:

As a fan of The New Adventures of Old Christine, I hope Julis Louis-Dreyfus and co. are having a nice little laugh at what CBS gets for chosing to keep promoting a man who should have been getting help a long time ago instead of keeping a quality show on the air, all because of ratings…

(In all seriousness, I hope he gets help. As much as I think domestic violence is unforgiveable, I’m willing to believe he can change. I wish him the best. But again, this should have happened a long time ago.)

    • akita96th says:

Charly was merly playing himself on the show…both were ho-dawgs,
boozers, druggies & prostitutes….prone to trouble n mishief…but hot-dam! it was good entertainment…many of us out in the real world can relate to drunkin binges on booze n dope and bimbos ..thats why I find it so freakn funny..I am going to miss the show…but hey Charley should start his own reality show we can all watch him every week bang his store bought ho’s and pass out in funny places and we– go he hawwwww! hehawwww! nyuk nyuk nyuk..wise guy eh! plunk!

  11. Em says:

I hope they just cancel it so everyone can move on to other projects. Then Charlie Sheen can try playing a character that isn’t just another version of himself…and doesn’t have the same name as him.

  12. King Kong says:

What took the Fucccccking idiot network so long to pull the plug?

Even an Ape can tell when another Ape SUCKS! So long CBS. Fox has your ASS in sight.

  13. Mank says:

Well, Charlie Sheen basically wanted to play chicken with CBS and Chuck Lorre, and now he has his answer. Oh, and Charlie…you may have the number one sitcom on TV, but CBS can give that tidy little Monday spot to The Big Bang Theory and do just fine.

Of course, the fact that you’re on a tropical vacation with Bree Olson and I’m writing this from a basement apartment that’s falling apart is not lost on me.

    • Cathy in San Diego says:

You might be in a basement apartment, and I may be in a 2-bedroom condo, but obviously we have more common sense than Charlie Sheen does. And I really hope they move BBT back to Mondays, because I forget all the time that it’s on Thursdays, so I end up missing it!

  14. Donna says:

Charlie Sheen is the world’s biggest a—hole. Sorry about the other cast and crew. However CBS could not continue to let him get away with this idiocy.

  15. Stacy says:

And yet… Millions will still watch the repeats.

    • Mank says:

Folks, we have to remember a few important points. To those who really think ANY network would keep a low rated (though admittedly funny) sitcom like …Old Christine over a ratings juggernaut like …Men…you’re dreaming. Even Julia Louis Dreyfus knows that. And it’s easy to say CBS should just cancel the show and be done with them, but then there go the jobs of Jon Cryer, Angus T. Jones and the rest of the cast and crew, who haven’t done anything wrong. Oh…and people watch because the show is actually funny.

      • Mank says:

I don’t know why I did this as a reply to Stacy. Sorry. :-/

      • xav says:

And? Shows get canceled all the time. The cast and crew find new jobs. Dozens of shows are cancelled every year. Even established show with long runs are canceled. The crew just gets new jobs on another show.

  16. Alex says:

THANK GOD. Glad CBS isn’t putting up with him anymore. Hopefully the show is done for good.

  17. Amy says:

How sad for all the other folks who work on this show. Sheen should be ashamed…even though I know he wont. I hope they are given a salary through the end of this season anyway.

    • Mank says:

I agree. They all committed to the full season. They should be paid. In fact, Sheen would REEEEEEEEALLY score a few most-needed points by ponying up some of that dough. Just sayin’.

    • Elizabeth says:

    • Chatty says:

Agreed. That’s the first thing I thought about. He says that he’s the one who made CBS billions and, sure, he’s the ‘star’ of the show, but it’s an ensemble and if it weren’t for the other people who work with him nobody would have watched. He owes a debt of gratitude to the cast and crew. Instead, he keeps riding the wave of delusion that comes with addiction and tells himself he is the only one responsible for the success of the show. It’s sad to watch somebody who has been blessed with so many advantages and love in this life waste it away without any regard for the people around him. It’s a tragedy.

  18. katie says:

I think its good, for a lot of reasons, not the least of which being that sheen should know that there are consequences to such massive stupidity. I do, however, feel horrible for the rest of the cast and especially the crew that rely on the paycheck. They should recast sheen next season – he’s not worth the trouble.

  19. Derek says:

If I am his co stars & a crew member, I am royally p. o.’d at this narcissistic moron who cares about no one but himself. I am glad his bluff was called though.

    • Jacob says:

Exactly. I’m glad they stuck to their guns and pulled the show. He needed to be shown that his alleged “star power” isn’t what’s kept Men on the air for so long: it’s the combined efforts of the cast and crew that he so callously had shut down because he wanted to push Chuck Lorre’s buttons. The man seriously needs to grow up. But, then again, we’ve known that fact for years.

    • Don says:

Sheen isn’t a leader he is a follower evidenced by his behavior he just painted himself into a corner because he doesn’t have boundaries and is just a broken record like Lindsay Lohan Lets hear for the people of Hollywood that have always walked with class like Lisa Whelchel turning back on Hollywood to raise a family and being a good role model for her children

  20. allie says:

I just feel awful for the rest of the cast and crew. Sheen was being obnoxiously selfish and impetuous, and I totally agree they should shut down production, it’s just also very unfortunate for everyone else involved.

  21. santora says:

Screw charlie sheen. Do you realize how many people he just put out of work? P.A.s that make what $600 per week? Custodial staff? Securit gaurds? Forget the titles you know, a lot of low end people just lost their jobs

  22. Steven says:

    Amazing news! Now cancel it!

  23. Kristina says:

Thank you, CBS for following through. The bad thing is all those crew members aren’t getting paid. They should pay the crew members with Sheen’s salary. They deserve it for putting up with his crap.

  24. Venkman007 says:

Sheen’s a clown. He needs to go the eff away for a very very long time.
The mere fact that “Men” is a top- rated program makes me just shake my head at all the American sheep that think that program is “funny”, when clearly, it is not. It’s nothing more than dick and fart jokes, and is pretty offensive towards women.

If anyone in Hollywood has half a brain in their heads, they will make sure that ‘ol Chucky never gets work ever again.

This is a man that not only SHOT AT his first wife, but repeatedly beat his second wife, yet Hollywood continues to kiss his ass, and just “let it go”. The man locks hooker in closets, does BRIEFCASES full of cocaine, and terrorized his wife with a knife.

HOW is this man still in Hollywood? Christ.

    • Correction says:

Not that this is any better, but he actually shot his ex-GF, Kelly Preston, was convicted of beating up another girlfriend, had a restraining order put on him by an ex-wife and another GF, then he put a knife to his latest ex-wife’s throat, then terrorized a porn actor in that NY hotel room. I just don’t get it. How this guy was able to be accepted in society for his violent and offensive behavior toward women, never mind lauded for such behavior and glamorized for it on a hit TV show. I sometimes look at him and think he’s a walking sign of the apocalypse.

      • Alice says:

I haven’t seen him kick a puppy- but otherwise he meets pretty much all the criteria for a complete sociopath.
Apparent lack of remorse or empathy for others
        Persistent lying or stealing
        Cruelty to animals
Poor behavioral controls — expressions of irritability, annoyance, impatience, threats, aggression, and verbal abuse; inadequate control of anger and temper
A history of childhood conduct disorder
        Recurring difficulties with the law
Tendency to violate the boundaries and rights of others
Aggressive, often violent behavior; prone to getting involved in fights
        Inability to tolerate boredom
        Poor or abusive relationships
        Irresponsible work behavior
        Disregard for safety

  25. Rowan says:

I think Charlie is spinning out of control and doesn’t realize that very few people will want to work with someone who behaves so badly and whose antics shut down the set. His career was in the toilet until Michael J Fox and Gary David Goldberg took a chance on him to replace Fox on Spin City. If they hadn’t hedged their bets with Charlie’s promise of being clean and sober, he would relegated to “whatever happened to…” posts on the internet and he wouldn’t have all the money and career he has. I think this is the end of the series, which sucks for the rest of the cast and the crew. at least it’s pilot season and I’m sure they will get new shows to work on.

It always shocks me how people can still be anti-semetic in Hollywood after all this time. I hope Martin Sheen is shocked at his son’s behavior.

  26. BrianR says:

This moron Sheen will be dead in a ditch by the end of the year and Lifetime will make a movie based on his decline and fall.

  27. chloe says:

Cancel this horrible show!!! Sheen is disgusting.

  28. Shelley says:

Time to give Sandy Duncan a call.

  29. M says:

I really think more people should be apologizing to Denise Richards. Charlie Sheen is obviously out of his freakin’ mind.

    • Denise is an idiot says:

Though she made those allegations against him, she’s still the idiot that won’t say a bad word against him any more and will still allow her children to see him b/c he has paid her off. She’s a very insecure and pathetic creature who knew his violent behavior toward women and still married him and brought innocent children into this world with him. She should be ashamed at the pain she has brought onto her children b/c her low self esteem led her to procreate w/ this maggot on the turd on society.

  30. JL says:

What a jerk!!! Ive never really watched stuff his work, now I never will!

  31. CAM says:

Here’s hoping they can get out of paying him for the rest of the season. Sheen basically plays himself on the show, and has demonstrated time and time again that he doesn’t deserve the repeated cjances he’s been given. I feel for the rest of the cast and crew. I would love to see them recast his part and have the show continue to do well. I can’t stand it, but I know there are fans out there.

  32. Sunny says:

Well Charlie…looks like your bluff was called! It’s too bad for John, Angus and the rest of the cast, though…all this because of a total “recreational” crackhead asshat!!

  33. Dave says:

The sad thing is if this dies SHeen will have no more career. He had leverage and power because of the success but if his ego is so big he thinks 2 and a Half’s success is all on his shoulders is a fool and an idiot

Lorre has been producing wildly successful TV for years and I am inclined to believe that the fact hes the common denominator in all those successes means Two and a Half is successful because of Chuck.

Honestly actors are important but without writing they are just dancing monkeys….as we all know when the writers strike happened there was nothing for them to do and good writers are rare – TV actors abount like baby rabbits in the spring time.

Good bye charlie at least now you can go back to having the same level of fame as Emilo

  34. Lorie says:

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but CBS has impressed me.

I feel badly for the remaining cast and crew, but I have no sympathy for this pig.

  35. evie says:

I hope Chuck Lorre has some security. Sheen is unstable and filled with hate.

  36. kathy says:

Someone needs to take away Charlie’s phone and computer before he proves himself to be an even bigger d*ucheb*g.

  37. Katie says:

He and Mel Gibson should hang out.

  38. Schemingstar05 says:

Its amazing how many of you are dissing the show.. Its actually quite funny. I watch it in Syndication all the time.. It’s sad that such a great show may end because the star is a complete ass whole.. Charlie Grow up and just do your job..

  39. Lauren says:

They should kill Charlie Sheen’s character off (violently) and have another, more professional actor come in and play pretty much the same character. No one loses their jobs and Hollywood stops allowing screw-ups to get by scot-free and still make millions. I don’t watch the show, and don’t really care if it ends, but it would be sad for all of the other people employed on the show to be put out of work because of this sad little man.

  40. Chris says:

  41. chris says:

charlie seen is amazing, the show is amazing, its funny and 15 million people cant be wrong

  42. em g says:

Why shut down production? Why not just shoot around him? Could they not have just paid him to stay at home? Was his contract that iron clad that filming episodes without him when he was “ready to work” would have put the network/production company in danger of breaching contract and incurring damages? This is really unfortunate for all the people associated with the production that are now out of work. Hope the producers are brainstorming how to do it without him since Sheen seems to want to keep escalating this and chances are he’ll do something to actually void his contract.

  43. Josh says:

Congrats CBS, you just took off your second highest rated show after NCIS. Who’s running that ship?

    • amy says:

Somebody who can see the writing on the wall. They were never going to get anything else done this season anyway, given what a total d-bag Sheen has turned out to be. Better for them to face it now, reprogram around May sweeps, and start figuring out whether the show is dead (in which case they can aggressively promote an existing show or seek some solid new comedies for next season) or whether/how to recast (in which case some more-deserving actors are about to get phone calls.) So, you know, someone with some SENSE is running the ship.

  44. Anna says:

They should have not renewed his contract after he attacked his wife.

    • Yuck, thy name is Charlie Sheen says:

Agree, but he should have never been allowed to work after he shot Kelly Preston, then there was the chance to shut him out after he was convicted of beating up yet another GF, then the allegations of abuse and violence by ex-wife Denise, then the knife to throat, then then the terrorizing of porn star, etc… I am mystified at the amount of chances this lowlife violent man has gotten. Will he have to kill someone before he gets the shaming he has deserved decades ago or will he do an OJ Simpson?

      • Cathy in San Diego says:

Your concern is valid, I think. There’s a chance as well, based on his behavior, that he could end up killing himself first.

  45. CJ says:

It’s about time that CBS stood up to Sheen. Maybe the show’s writers need to start planning episode one of next season – it opens with a heart-wrenchingly sad funeral of a certain major character. Granted, it may cut down on the comedy opportunities for a few episodes, but it opens up new chances for the remaining cast to shine on their own.

Oh, and someone really needs to teach Charlie the meaning of the word “NO” – something he should have learned a long time ago. (Heck, my cats do better with that word and they’re, well… CATS.)

  46. labgrrl says:

wow. someone’s true colours are shining right thru! too bad he is taking everyone down from the show with him. hopefully, with Chuck L’s other shows, everyone else will find some work. sad stuff. i hope Charlie gets some help – he is way overdue…

  47. petie says:

It must be REALLY bad if the bigwigs are OK with pulling the show. It was still high in the ratings and raking in money. I shudder to think how bad things are…

  48. JES says:

I would have preferred that they simply fired Sheen and moved on without him for the last 4 episodes.

    • Dennis Dziadowicz says:

I agree. The reasons that the show is funny are the talents of Sheen’s much more talented co-stars, Conchetta Ferrell,Jon Cryer and Holland Taylor. Replacing Sheen need not have any affect on the quality of the show.

      • DawnD says:

I also agree. The only reason I watched for the past few years is because of Jon Cryer, Conchata Ferrell, Holland Taylor, and Angus T. Jones. THEY are genuine talents. It saddens me that megalomaniac Charlie Sheen has screwed over these talented folks so royally in his hypermanic delusional state. Talk about biting the hand that feeds you! Clearly, Charlie needs professional help. It is so unfortunate that he is so ungrateful and egotistical. A true narcissist. But it is a true shame that both the cast & crew have to suffer for Charlie’s problems (many of which he has brought on himself). I think they could use the same premise without Charlie quite handily.

    • Neerod says:

Jon Cryer, Angus, COncehtta and the rest of the cast can easiy go on without him. Sheen overrates his ability to be the glue. Cryer and ANgus are hysterical as is Herb – plus the mom. Cryer out acts Sheen any day. SHeen is not acting – he’s just playing himself. His face looks haggard and old so to believe that he can get young beautiful girls in bed is stretching it. They can write him out – occasionally refer to him or show his back doing something. Herb can move in with ALan and Jake. No one will miss SHeen except SHeen.

    • Ceta says:

My thoughts also . . .for sure!!!!!!!!!!!!
