True Blood Exclusive: Look Who's Returning!

You already know that True Blood‘s upcoming fourth season will feature witches, werewolves and more Nan Flannigan. But here’s what I’m fairly certain you don’t know: It’ll also mark the return of vampire legend Godric!

TVLine has exclusively learned that Allan Hyde will reprise his role as Eric’s late, forever young-looking maker when the HBO drama resumes this summer.

The duration and exact timing of his stint are unknown. It’s also unclear what form the onetime vampire sheriff of Area 9 will take given that he succumbed to the worst sunburn in history during season 2. (He returned briefly from the great beyond in the season 3 finale to deliver a message to Eric.)

Blood EP Alan Ball isn’t offering too many clues, except to say that fans will see “a different side of Godric.”

  • I think Godric will show his “Evil” Vampire side”, since all we’ve seen is his “Human and compasionate Side”

  • I love love love True Blood…..but the books are so much better. I do wish they would stay a little more true to the books, but I can’t complain, Alan Ball is creating a great show with the books written. It will be hard to see the show Godric in a bad light. Can’t wait til next book comes out in may!

  • If the portrays Godric the same as he is depicted in “dead in Dallas” many viewers may become upset… In the novels he is the most hated & disgusting of monsters. Though he did try to help Sookie escape & did show remorse he was a child rapist and murderer.. must say I liked him better in the show..

    • Godric is not Eric’s maker in the books, although you’re right about him being the most hated and disgusting of monsters.

  • maybe the Faries have been looking after him I mean after all he did have Humanity that is why he truned to the sun There is magic in thier water When sookie had been almost drained dry bye Bill she frist met the Faries The head Farie Told her to drink SHe then returned healed This could of happened to Godric He may return with Sookie However then some thing happens and he becomes evil and returns to his younger self when he was frist turned Or as I am afraid of its proubly just flash backs as last season I would really like to see Sookie and Godric hook up Now that would really shake things up

  • I think we are going to be seeing a lot more of the animal that attacked Eric’s fellow vikings. He HAD been stalking Eric for a while before he attacked very much like a big cat. That’s exactly how her killed his men. Beautiful but deadly. I read Anne Rice too so to me he is similar to the Armand vampire.

  • I thought the vampire that encountered trouble with the Maenad was someone other than Godfrey/Godrik (maybe Clancy), because in the books none of the Louisiana vampires knew Godfrey & he came to Texas to die from San Francisco. Also, it’s a safe bet Godrik won’t be presented like in the books because Alan Ball’s vision is clearly different than in the books. In “True Blood” Season 2, Godrik tells Sookie on the roof of the hotel that Eric can be ruthless & unlikeable at times because of his (Godrik’s) influence. I bet it will be flashbacks of Eric & Godrik in the earlier days when Godrik was evil. Also, as Eric gets closer to Sookie, he’ll have to embrace humanity to understand his feelings for her & I can see Godrik’s spirit leading him through this.

  • Love the show, the books are so much better, Sookie will have the best of all worlds, human, vampire, fairy and werewolf. I can’t wait to see her hook up with Alcide and Eric, not at the same time of course. I wish Ball would have stayed more on track with the books but we understand it’s for ratings. I think Godric will be in Eric’s memories, hopefully they’re shirtless ones, love seeing me some good eye candy when watching True Blood :O) Soooo looking forward to the new season!

  • Spolier for those that havent read books: In the books Godric isnt even Erics maker..but he was way older than Eric and was a child molester.. But it doesnt matter to me how he comes back ( I do think he will be used in flashbacks since Eric is supposed to lose his memory in the 4th season )but I love the books ( cant wait for the new edition this spring ) and I love the show.. its like having multiple stories of all of my favorite people. Theres no telling what Mr. Ball will do whatever it is I know I will love it.

    • I know. I don’t know why they made Godric Eric’s maker in the show when he’s a clear character in the books and almost a far removed from Godric as you can get. Neither Godric nor Eric’s real “dad” feature much in the books, but why the switch? The real one is just awful and disgusting and Eric (and Sookie) hates him. I think it would have been better to keep the real maker in the show because of the complicated relationship. That said, I love the Godric on the show despite the fact he really had nothing to do with Eric.

    • My local Walmart sells them, and I think all but the last one is in paperback.. but any respectable book store will have them.. my suggestion is to go to Ms Harris’s website… http://www.charlaineharris.com and get the bibliography so you can read them in proper order.. there are also little short stories that you can read in other books..

  • Considering that he is a vampire and went to “meet the sun” which turned him to complete ash the only thing that would not ruin the show completely would be for him to come back in the form of a vision/dream/memory

Comment by Jen – February 24, 2011 11:16 AM PDT  Reply To This Post
  • Most likely it will be flashbacks. But since somehow they have now been able to set it up that Godric can come back to Eric as his conscience, well, probably that too. The ONLY thing that disappoints on the flashbacks (because I enjoy the backstories played out) is that as recent at 1945, after being together for 1000 years, Godric was still counseling Eric on his restraint and through situations as though Eric would not have figured that out in all these years. Just makes Eric look less intelligent and together as we find him to be in the books or hope to see him on TV.

Comment by RUKiddingme? – February 24, 2011 11:17 AM PDT  Reply To This Post
  • There is such a divergence in the TV series and the books that it makes you wonder where they will go next. There are some obvious story lines from the books that they just cannot do in the show because of changes they have made. I really hope that this season concentrates on the love affair with Sookie and Eric (and all that if entails-yummy sex scenes!) and think that Goderic will appear in flashbacks as well. As for Ocella, I would think that story line has no place in the show considering the parts of the story that they have changed. Can’t wait for the show to come back on and for the 11th book in May!

  • Memories. When we first saw Godric, the one who made Eric, he was VERY different than the one we saw at his end. That is the story line.

  • I love the books. While I’m glad that the show has turned out so great I wish there was a little more story from the books. I hated the whole season of the Maenad. Not the season itself but the fact that it focused so much on the Maenad and veered so far away from main storyline of the books. After all, the great story lines in the books are what inspired the show. I think Godric should come back as evil and angry. He was too nice and vampires are not supposed to be so peaceful.

  • The topic above states that we’ll “see a different side of Godric” so I would think it’s something more than just flashbacks… because he may be coming back as something evil in a different state of mind. Unless of course it’ll refer to the way he was before he got his humanity as someone mentioned above… Either way I can’t wait!!! Yahhh Trubies!! :)

  • I know this might sound stupid but I think Godric should back as reincarted human being given a second chance at life. But, he has no memory of who or what he was in the past. He has to figure that out with Eric’s help.

Comment by Briana Lowry – February 24, 2011 11:51 AM PDT  Reply To This Post
  • Godric isn’t Eric’s maker in the original book series, so they can do whatever they want with Godric on the show. In the books he did meet the sun, but he wasn’t Eric’s “dad.” And I think his name was actually Godfrey, but I’m not 100% on that part. I wonder if they on the show will ever address the issues between Eric and his maker that the books did later on. I guess they really can’t since it’s a completely different vampire and there is no love between them. Well, I like the show’s version better actually.

Comment by Caiman – February 24, 2011 11:53 AM PDT  Reply To This Post
  • I agree with The One because that is how it goes in the book.. I also think Eric and Sookie are gonna get together and the season is gonna revolve around Eric loosing his memory and sookie has to help him gain it back by finding the witches that did it to him. I also bet ya that the season will start off with Sookie driving home from work at night and see a naked and confused Eric running down the Hwy and then she stops and has to take him home cause he doesn’t know who he or she is. Then again… the books and show don’t fallow each other that closely

  • WE LOVE HIM!! we think he had a “mortal” crying for him when he died so we think he’ll be an angel. He moved on in such an unselfish way. Flash backs were last year…time to move forward. Remember visions of him last season by Eric. Godric was the BEST on the show. So many of us think so they had to bring him back. Who cares about the books. This show is SO much BETTER than the books! We’ve read them in my house and LOVE how they’ve taken a good story and added so much more depth! TRUE BLOOD ROCKS

  • Godric was in Eric’s memories in season 3, so why would the memories in season 4 be special? I’m pretty sure Charlaine Harris got most of her vampy inspiration from Anne Rice (I’ve read the books from both, the vampires are very similar), and even though Godric does not return in the Charlainee Harris series, her vampire inspirators from Anne Rice can return from being burned by the sun (at least the vampires hint that it can happen) if their ashes are not spread properly. So, maybe Godric is back for real?
