Home Improvement Redux: Tim Allen Returns to ABC Roots With Comedy Pilot

Get More: News, Pilots, Scoop

No doubt hoping to recapture some of its ’90s ratings mojo, ABC has signed Home Improvement‘s Tim Allen to headline a potential new comedy series for fall.

The untitled multi-camera pilot hails from Jack Burditt (The Mike O’Malley Show) and revolves around an Average Joe who’s trying to survive in an increasingly female-dominated world.

The project was originally called Man Up before being renamed The Last Day of Man. Both titles have since been ditched, so if you have any suggestions post ‘em in the comments. I’m sure ABC (and 20th Century, which is producing) would appreciate the input.

I love Tim Allen, I think this TV shoul would work..

my idea: Last Man Standing (kinda lame, I know but it’s all my brain could come up with after a long week of school & it’s Friday) :)

    • I came up with the same title! And yes, I also thought it was lame. We must have similar minds (or TGIF states).

  • How about ‘Ladies Man’ because it’s basically the same concept as the late 90s sitcom.

  • I thought “Last Days of Man,” and “Man Up,” were two different pilots at ABC? One with Tim Allen, the other with Teri Polo and Amanda Detmer?

  • This sounds an awful lot like a show ABC tried about a decade ago called “Odd Man Out” which had Eric Von Detten playing the only boy in a house full of sisters and had Markie Post as his mother. It lasted about a season before ABC pulled the plug on it.

However with Allen on-board it sounds like it could be much better.

    • How can you compare the two? One revolved around a teenager and this around a grown man. One was a TGIF show and nothing on network television comes close to being comparable to the style of show on TGIF. It’s a shame that today’s teens don’t have anything like TGIF.
