Scoop: James Van Der Beek To Play Himself In ABC's Bitch Pilot

Get More: Casting News, News, Pilots

In his first regular comedy series gig, Dawson’s Creek alum James Van Der Beek is set to co-star in the ABC pilot Don’t Trust the Bitch in Apt. 23.

The project, to be directed by Modern Family‘s Jason Winer, centers on June (The Good Wife‘s Dreama Walker), an earnest, honest, optimistic girl from the heartland who is forced to move in with Chloe (Veronica Mars‘ Krysten Ritter), a sexy, unstable New York City party girl who has the morals of a pirate.

Van Der Beek will play Chloe’s best friend and a heightened version of himself (in the vein of Neil Patrick Harris’ stint in the Harold & Kumar movies and Matt LaBlanc’s starring role on the Showtime comedy Episodes).

Interesting footnote: The role was originally written for Lance Bass.

  • Hmm. I like Van Der Beek, especially in self-deprecation mode, but can something like this really be sustained over an entire series run?

    • Why not? Kirsty Alley did it in “Fat Actress.”

  • LOL @ James Van Der Beek playing himself. Is this going to be anything like Matt LeBlanc playing himself in Episodes?

  • Love it. He is pretty good at making fun of himself as we learned from the skit on laughordie.

    • Not to mention Becca from The Good Wife. I love JVDB, especially when he plays an a-hole (Rules of Attraction), so I’m excited. Suddenly this show is top of my radar.

  • Why are networks now using cuss words in their new programs? I don’t personally like it, my daughter can read that.

    • I doubt she’s gonna be scarred because she saw a bad word in a show title. Wait til she’s in school. She’ll hear worse things than that before first period is over with. No wonder we’re raising a generation of self indulgent weiners.
